Obituary of Sui Ma
SUI KUI MA
1950 - 2016
Mr. Sui Kui Ma passed away peacefully into the loving arms of our Lord on Friday, December 23, 2016 at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon. He was born in Guangzhou, China on September 23, 1950, the eldest son of Yuen Kau Ma and Lai Kuen Ma. His family moved to Hong Kong in 1958 where he attended school at Queen's College. Sui later travelled to Canada for his high school and post-secondary studies. In 1975 he completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry at the University of Saskatchewan, his Master of Business Administration in 1977, his Accredited Public Accountant designation in 1983, and his Certified General Accountant designation in 1987. During his studies he met and fell in love with Tammy Ling. Tammy also grew up in Hong Kong and was studying Nursing at the University of Saskatchewan. The two attended and served in the Saskatoon Chinese Alliance Church. After a four year courtship, they were married in August 14, 1976. Sui began his professional career articling at Deloitte & Touche in 1977 and later joined the Concorde Group of Companies as an assistant controller in 1981. He was promoted in the years to follow as an accounting manager, corporate controller and finally, vice president of finance. He celebrated 35 years of faithful service. Sui loved the Lord and was highly involved in the Christian community throughout his life. Sui passionately served in a variety of roles such as Sunday school teacher, president of the College and Career Fellowship, choir member, youth director, deacon and chairman of the Elder's board. Many of the young men and women he mentored or had the privilege of leading to Christ went on to serve in full time ministry. To this day many of these former students fondly recall Sui's exemplary leadership, his servant's heart and devotion to spreading the gospel. Sui also served on numerous national organizations such as treasurer for the Canadian Chinese Alliance Churches Association (14 years), treasurer for Chinese Missionary Convention of Canada (9 years), board member of Chinese Christian Mission of Canada (25 years), director of CCM Small Town Ministry for Northern Saskatchewan (14 years). Sui is remembered for his wisdom, selflessness and love for others. He would frequently be consulted for advice and guidance from accounting and tax to relational and spiritual matters. Sui loved investing in relationships. He frequently invited new and old friends for dinners in his home and hosting out-of-town guests. Sui was strong, loyal, admired and deeply loved by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by his wife Tammy, younger brother Siu Loong (Kelly) of Edmonton, younger sister Siu Fong (Henry) of Baltimore, Maryland, sons Nathan (Evelyn) of Calgary and Matthew (Heidi) of Edmonton, grandchildren Tabitha, Gideon, and many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends across Canada.
