Obituary of Randy Swan
Loving Husband, Father & Friend
Randy Swan died peacefully at home on November 5, 2016, only a short time after being diagnosed with terminal cancer. He was 66-years-old.
Born on July 14, 1950, he was raised by his grandmother Edith May Swan in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Randy attended Mount Royal College in Calgary, Alberta, where he learned the art of how television is made. Following graduation he went on to work for CBC, Canada’s national broadcaster. He worked for many years in CBC’s Saskatoon office followed by some years spent in Yellowknife, NT, where he and Bonnie raised their family. He returned home to Borden, SK where he drove school bus for several years.
Randy married Bonnie Bentley-Swan on November 30, 1985. They often traveled together by motorcycle, car, and plane. Love of the outdoors and Harley Davidson motorcycles were lifelong passions for Randy. When not at work or enjoying the open road, he could be found visiting a Saskatoon auction house with his lifelong friend Dave, and sometimes hunting with lifelong friend Jamie.
Never seeking the spotlight, he preferred to make a difference behind the scenes. Those who knew him well remember Randy as a loyal friend with a good sense of humour, and as a Father who always went the extra mile to make family life wonderful. There seemed to be nothing he could not fix. No bad situation he could not improve with his quiet, yet reassuring advice.
Randy is predeceased by his Grandmother, Edith May Swan (September 1992) and father Ray Swan (April 2005). He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Bentley-Swan, son Josh Bentley-Swan, daughter Tera Swan and partner Monty Hrappstead, and mother Alice Jones.
