Alex Lypka

Obituary of Alex Lypka

It is with great sadness that the family of Alex Lypka announces his sudden passing on Friday, May 31st, 2024 at the age of 85 years. Alex will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife, EVA Lypka (nee Hasek) of 55 years, daughters, TANYA Collins (Nizar) and NADIA Schamber (Darren), and his only son MICHAEL Lypka (Julie) along with his 6 grandchildren, Alex, Lara, Andrew, Luke, Alexis and Max. He was predeceased by his son-in-law, John Collins, Tanya’s late husband.

Having spent most of his formative years growing up in Balcarres, and then later becoming a long time resident with his new bride to raise their family, Alex had a long-standing impact as a high school math teacher at Balcarres High School from 1969-1994. He will be laid to rest in Balcarres, the town he always saw as home, next to his adoptive parents Lena and Michael Lypka.

Alex was known to be highly intelligent, witty, and athletic playing a multitude of sports competitively from hockey to baseball to track and field. He graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Education in 1962, taught in Wilke from 1962-1965, then Balcarres in 1965 before he went overseas to teach for 1 year in Fontainbleau, France and 2 years in Hemer, Germany where he met his wife Eva.

Alex led by example and principle, inspiring his own children to carry on those same attributes into their own successful careers. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren and his love and devotion for his wife, Eva was palpable to all who knew him.
