Obituary of David Gordon Abbey
Born 2 January 1948, Renfrew, Ontario; died 25 May 2024, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
David lived for his family first and foremost. He was known for a snappy joke, a melodious song here and there, and overwhelming love for his wife, daughters and grandchildren.
He led by example, and was not afraid to go to bat for a cause he believed in. A lifelong champion of human rights, and fighting for those less fortunate, David volunteered countless hours to numerous causes. At the end of the day, David carried on in his own way. He shone with love and respect for all who entered his path, and he brightened countless lives with his quick wit and charming demeanor.
David is survived by his loving wife of almost 55 years, Carol Ruttle-Abbey; daughter, Heather Abbey (Samuel Tipewan); grandchildren Trey, Giovanni, Dayvan, Cairo, Kiowa and Summer; great-granddaughter, Isabella. He is also survived by his brother Michael Abbey (Dominique); sister-in-law Brenda Ruttle; brother-in-law David Ruttle and five nephews and one niece. He was predeceased by daughter Lori-Lynn (Abbey) Laliberte and son-in-law Gerald Laliberte, as well as his parents, Sydney & Rhoda (Ramstein) Abbey and in-laws, Irwin & Irene (Bonser) Ruttle. A private cremation ceremony will be held.
In lieu of flowers donations to the Saskatoon Food Bank, 202 Avenue C South, Saskatoon, SK, S7M 1N2 in David’s memory would be appreciated.
