Obituary of Edith May Shannon

EDITH MAY SHANNON age 97 born May 31, 1926, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2024 in Saskatoon, SK at St.Ann's Home, after a lengthy stay at Saskatoon City Hospital.
Edith was born in Prince Albert, SK to Edith Margaret (Christie) Shannon and Thomas Millar Shannon. Her elementary education began at Connell Creek School, Hudson Bay Junction and Tisdale; grades 9-12 in Porcupine Plain, then graduating as a Registered Nurse from Holy Family Hospital in Prince Albert, Registered Nurse Qualifications in Scotland, and Diploma in Nursing Administration from University of Saskatchewan. Edith worked at Saskatoon City Hospital for 23 years in the Pediatric Unit before taking early retirement to care for her mother.

Edith May Shannon is survived by: Elaine Isaacson, niece of Wadena, SK., Lois Morison niece of Lacombe,AB; Merina Koly great niece of Vancouver,BC; Trevor Veresh great nephew of Lacombe, Maeora Shannon great niece of Calgary,AB; Kaylee Maclean great niece of Kelvington,SK; Leif Isaacson great nephew of Lethbridge,AB; Stean Kury great great nephew of Edmonton,AB; Kaela Kury great great niece of Saskatoon, Ashlynne Koly great great niece of Oshawa,ON; Liem and Nathaniel Maclean great great nephews of Kelvington. Molly Maclean great great niece, Matteo Kury great great great nephew of Saskatoon, Dianne Shannon 2nd cousin of Saskatoon. She is preceded in death by her parents Edith Margaret (Christie) Shannon & Thomas Millar Shannon, by her sister Ellen Fannon (Chester) & two infant sisters.

Edith enjoyed her travels to her mother's Scotland homeland, and to Alaska, Hawaii, Victoria, and the Maritimes. 

She was an active leader in the Mount Royal Emmanuel United Church, CGIT, the United Church Women, and teaching Sunday School. She was involved with the Board of Oliver Lodge, Oliver Lodge Auxiliary, St. Andrew's Guild, the Scottish Country Dance Association, History and Folklore Society and enjoyed singing with the Church Choir and Orpheus 60 chorus, 
Edith will be remembered for her quiet and pleasant dedication and love of her companion pet cats.

The Funeral Service will be held at Mount Royal Emmanuel United Church, 521 Vancouver Ave. North, Saskatoon, SK on Monday, June 3, 2024 at 2:30 p.m. with Joan Brown and Deborah Ferber officiating. Burial will be in the family plot at Chelan Hillcrest Cemetery, Porcupine Plain, SK.

Memorial donations may be made to Mount Royal Emmanuel United Church, Oliver Lodge, Kidney Foundation, Saskatoon SPCA, Orpheus 60 Chorus Music Supply or a charity of choice.
