Obituary of Katherine Louise Ash
Katherine Louise Ash RN PhD
On May 17, 2024, Katherine Louise Ash died peacefully in private care surrounded by love. She was born to Adelaide and Glenn Ash on April 4, 1951 in Peace River, AB. She was the idolized older sister to Ann Marie, Jonathan, and Norman. Later, she was a favorite aunt to their children.
Katherine was a caregiver by nature. This found expression in her nursing career. She chose to focus on rehab and geriatric nursing at what was then the University Hospital. She left nursing in the hospital to teach it at the University of Saskatchewan. It was here, she found her niche and much joy. She was a firm believer in an interprofessional collaboration in health care practice, which was the topic of her 2017 doctoral thesis. She helped start and continued to support day programs for the aging.
Katherine was a true and loyal friend. One could always count on a sympathetic ear and a warm hug. She was an animal lover. There was rarely a time in her life when she did not share her home with a cat or a few dogs. She loved to travel. She had a special fondness for Finland and the friends and students she met from there. She loved a variety of music and played her piano often.
Katherine leaves to mourn her sister, Ann Marie (Owen), brothers, Jonathan (Karlene) and Norman (Sheila), sister of the heart, Dawn, and eight nephews and two nieces. She is predeceased by her parents, Glenn and Adelaide Ash.
The family would like to thank Jan Benetto Enriched Living for their compassionate care of Katherine over the past five and a half years. For those so wishing donations in memory of Katherine may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or the Saskatoon Council on Aging.
