Obituary of Sigrid Edith Kirmse
It is with sadness the family announces that the sudden unexpected death of our Mom and Oma occurred at 91 years of age on Monday, February 26, 2024 at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon.
Sigrid is survived by two children: daughter Uta (Greg) Buettner and son Helge (Liliana) Kirmse, three grandchildren: Gabriel (Shelley) Buettner, Adam (Jennifer) Buettner and Erika (Laren) Ball as well as seven great-grandchildren: Chloe, Gemma, Cohen, Avery, Hudson, Annika and Aiden. As well, she leaves behind her niece Daniela in Germany. She was predeceased by her parents Hildegard and Martin Partzsch as well as two sisters and two brothers.
Sigrid was born in Chemnitz, Germany. Following WWII she emigrated to Western Germany with her family. She was blessed with two children and due to a family work opportunity immigrated to Canada in 1965. While she was employed in a variety of fields, it was her volunteer work that was her real passion. Her pride in her heritage and her love of music led her to become the voice of the Sunday afternoon German program on CFCR as well as a classical program on Fridays on C95. Sigrid also started the German pre-school program in Saskatoon.
Mom loved her music and sang with the University Choir for many years. She supported and attended the Saskatoon Symphony as well as the Persephone Theater and the Saskatoon Music Festival. She was a strong member of the Saskatoon German Club Concordia, The Saskatchewan German Council and Folkfest. Sigrid was a loyal and active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and her faith sustained her through her life. She loved visits with her grandchildren and especially the addition of her seven great-grandchildren. She enjoyed sharing the outdoors and many stories with them.
Heartfelt thanks is extended to Pastor Trent Felstrom for coming to see our mother and giving her peace. And thank you to the EMS-Team and the staff at RUH for your kindness and caring to make Mom’s last few hours comfortable. In lieu of flowers, for those so wishing, donations may be made to the Redeemer Lutheran Church in memory of Sigrid.
The Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Saskatoon (812 Preston Ave.)
