Ian Duff passed away suddenly and painlessly at his home on Friday October 27th, 2023 at the age of 69. Ian is lovingly survived by his wife of 44 years, Marina, daughter Jenna (Cory), son Graeme (Gillian), sister Susan Baluk and grandpuppy Lucy.Ian was predeceased by his parents Gordon and Laura Duff, father-in-law Henry Michalski, and special cousin Lynn ‘Duffy’Duff.
Ian was born in Yorkton on March 23, 1954, and raised on the family farm at Beaver Dale, SK. Ian went to primary school at Silver Willow School until it closed, then was bussed into Yorkton Composite, and then off to Yorkton Regional High School. Ian and Marina married in May 1979 and were elated with the blessed birth of their daughter, Jenna Marie and then their son, Graeme Ian.
Ian started playing baseball at an early age, ending his playing career with the Willowbrook senior men’s team. He continued sharing his love for the game coaching his son’s teams and volunteering around the park and league in both Regina and Saskatoon. In addition to sports, Ian loved music and reading and passed these passions on to his daughter. He spent many hours attending her band concerts and recitals.
Ian began his working career in Yorkton, where he opened his own business which included selling and installing floor covering. Ian’s work life would involve many sales and management positions over the years. However, the most important part of his life was his family. The Duff familyfrequently shared Sunday brunches, dinners, and game nights. The household was always full of laughter, good food, and everyone was always welcome.
Ian was a wonderful husband and father but most of all a great person; always willing to help others first and ‘no’ ask was ever too great. The term ‘what a great guy or what a good guy’ is often used but Ian truly was exactly this.
Ian is also survived by sister-in-law Betty Jakubowski (Denis), brother-in-law Henry Michalski (Judy), sister-in-law Verna Trofanenko (Jim), Glenda Michalski (Dave) sister-in-law, Linda Michalski and many nieces, nephews and 2 special great nieces. He was predeceased by brother-in-law, Ed Michalski.
