Gordon Menuz

December 15, 1936 – October 10, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce that our Dad and Grandpa, Gordon Menuz, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2023 in Saskatoon at the age of 86.  Gordon leaves behind his son and daughter-in-law Glenn & Donna Menuz from Heritage Pointe, AB and his grandchildren Ashton (Filippo) of Calgary, AB and Travis (Stacey) of Langford, BC in addition to his brother Greg Menuz of Thunder Bay, niece Kimberly (Darcy) of Thunder Bay, ON and nephew David of London, ON and their children.  As well, Gordon will be deeply missed by Sandra Shelmerdine of Saskatoon along with her daughter Marlo and granddaughter Story.

Gordon was born Giordano Edward Menuz in Hearst, ON on December 15, 1936 to Egidio (Giles) and Irma Menuz who have both predeceased him.  The family moved to Fort William, ON (now called Thunder Bay).  Gordon began working at a bank in Thunder Bay but switched his career to sales working with Moore Business Forms, which resulted in a move to Regina and later Saskatoon, where he spent the rest of his career until his retirement in 1994.

Gordon had a passion for life and lived his life to the fullest, surrounding himself with great friends, humour and high energy.  To say he was an “extrovert” would be an understatement.  Gordon was always active and, over his lifetime, enjoyed jogging, curling, swimming, scuba diving and many other sports.  He had season tickets to the Saskatoon Blades and U of S Huskies Football and spent many weeks each year fishing with his friends in Northern Saskatchewan or while visiting his cousin Dennis Battigelli in Lake of the Woods, ON. 

Obviously, like anyone from Saskatchewan, Gordon loved cheering for the ‘Riders and had season tickets for over 20 years which started when he negotiated the season tickets as part of his transfer package to Regina with Moore in the 1960’s!  Above all, Gordon’s favourite sport was golfing and he cherished his membership at Riverside Country Club, usually playing with his group of buddies, more commonly known as “The Dummies”……Gordon loved being a “Dummy”.

Gordon was an active member of Rotary in Saskatoon for many years, taking on a number of roles and getting involved in many projects.  This sense of fellowship, community and “giving back” was very important to him.  Gordon was also a member at the YMCA of Saskatoon where he made many good friends.

Family was extremely important to Gordon, and it was rare that he wasn’t in Calgary for every holiday and lots of family occasions in-between.  He was extremely proud of his grandchildren, loved spending time with them and was a proud Grandpa attending both of their weddings last summer in Calgary.  Gordon also loved his many years with Sandra, Marlo and Story, be that travelling, going to movies or attending the theatre or a restaurant.

Thank you to the staff at Circle Drive Special Care Home and Preston Park II Retirement Residence for the great care and community they provided to Gordon over the last few years.  The family extends a special thanks to Renee Benoit at Preston Park II for all the care and support she provided to Gordon.

A celebration of Gordon’s life will be held on Friday, October 20 at 1:00 pm at Saskatoon Funeral Home at 338 – 4^th Ave. N in Saskatoon.  In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice.
