Obituary of Robert Roland Gillies
Robert Roland Gillies (1936 - 2023)
Beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather, Robert Gillies gently passed on September 22, 2023. At 87, Robert’s life was full of passion, integrity, kindness and compassion. Whether it was being senior member of the National Parole Board or Executive Director of the Regional Psychiatric Centre, his integrity and compassion guided his path. He was always a champion for the underdog. He instilled, in all of us, the importance of personal sacrifice and public service to help those less fortunate then ourselves.
At home, “Grampa Bob’s” passion and love were only surpassed by his “competitive spirit”, whether it was tennis, scrabble or playing ping pong with his grandchildren. His and Agnes’ life together is, and remains a model of kindness, respect, playfulness and undying love. He was never an overly affectionate or huggy person, but at no time did anyone doubt his sincerity in his love or concern for you. He was always there when you needed him.
He is survived by his wife Agnes; his children Chris (Rea), Pam (Paul), Carm (Curt), Val, Rod; his sister Rita; his grandchildren Brandon (Jenna and great grandson Wilder), Tessa, Sam, Chloe, Jenna, Austin, Spencer, Colin, Reed, Matt and Jackson (and everyone’s respective partners).
Gillies, Dad, Bob, Grampa Bob, Running Shoes Bob, you will be greatly missed but will, not only remain in our hearts forever, but will also live on because of the undeniable indelible imprint you have left on all of us.
In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that donations be made to the Royal University Hospital. A special shout out to the team at the ICU. You are a team of ANGELS! Thank you.
