Daniel Christian Krikau
January 17, 1956 – September 14, 2023

Dan was the first son of Fred and Emma Krikau. Dan attended Waldheim School, with high academic achievement. He knew from an early age he wanted to be a pharmacist, directing his energy to attain that goal with a pharmacy degree from the University of Saskatchewan.

His first pharmacy job took him to Nipawin. He had no family there and it was a rather lonely experience, but he endured.

In a short time Peter Perversoff recruited him to run Wakaw Pharmacy. Dan excelled there making many lasting friendships, with the convenience of being much closer to home. He eventually purchased the business.

There he married Barbara Fahlman in July 1984. Daughter Jillian was born February 1985.

When Dan sold Wakaw Pharmacy he took up hobby farming around Rosthern, where he resided on the farmstead just west of town.

Dan remarried Victoria Zulak April 22, 2009. They met working at various locations in northern Saskatchewan. Laloche, Buffalo Narrows and Pelican Narrows are among some of those locations. This experience provided some tough working conditions, but many lasting friendships were formed.

They eventually started Buffalo Narrows Pharmacy, running it for several years.

Eventually they relocated to Parksville BC, fulfilling a long time dream of living on the West Coast. Dan and wife Vikki still worked at various northern BC locations in the summer months, including Hazelton and Deese Lake.

A winter home was purchased in Florida, where they escaped the cold Canada offers us. This annual retreat they enjoyed for many years, again making many lasting friendships.

Dan and Vikki really enjoyed travelling and experienced many interesting trips. From Florida, a jaunt to Mexico was a relatively easy step. Dan made friends there too.

They just made plans for a really big trip to South Africa. It would have been weeks and he was so excited.

Dan worked hard and had an eye for nice things. They returned to Saskatoon about three years ago, purchasing an unfinished home in Evergreen. Finishing included basement, deck and landscaping, producing a beautiful home. I still fondly remember the sod laying work bee with family and friends. Hard on the back, but fun. His fondness for nice autos also showed, and he was able to very briefly enjoy a beautiful white new Lexus SUV.

Dan began having some health issues, including a serious bout of pneumonia while still in BC. It almost killed him. Later, diabetes and some heart issues were the new challenge.

Dan passed at home in the evening. He returned from an after supper walk, sitting down to watch some tv. It was very sudden. EMS arrived very quickly but nothing could be done. In an instant everything changes forever.

I like to think I have reached an age where shocking news is no longer shocking. I would be wrong. I will miss you Dan and my heart goes out to Vikki.

This is a story of Dan’s life written by his brother Charles. Dan will be forever missed.
