John “Dale” Kielo

1940-2023

John (Dale) Kielo passed away peacefully at the family farm on May 20^th, 2023 after a long battle with heart disease. 

Dale was born in Saskatoon on Feb. 9^th, 1940.  He was raised in the Avondale District near Delisle where he attended school at the Avondale School, Vanscoy, and graduated from Delisle. Upon graduation, Dale attended the U of S for 2 years before entering Teacher’s College.  In the fall of 1962, he started teaching in Kinistino and in a short time became the principal of the school.

In 1964, he met the love of his life, Linda, and they were married, August 21^st,1965. In 1971, Dale started working with the Federal Government as an Educational Consultant.  In 1974, Dale and Linda returned to the family farm and built their current yard site where they raised their 3 children.

In 1977, Dale and Linda made the decision to farm full-time, farming with his father and 3 brothers. Farming was his passion and he loved it through the good years as well as the lean years.  Harvest was his favorite season. He loved combining and always made sure that all the harvest equipment was serviced and ready to go.

When Dale was not farming, he loved hunting, fishing, shooting skeet, driving his convertible, and spending time with family and friends. He travelled to places like Florida, Mexico, Hawaii, New Orleans and Bahamas but his favorite trips were when they went camping or fishing with family and friends.  He especially loved spending time with his grandkids as he was a very proud Grandpa.  He was their biggest fan, and he made an effort to attend every activity including track, dance, basketball, hockey and lacrosse. Even though he was not feeling well this last winter, he never missed a provincial hockey game and was there to see his grandson win a Provincial Title. 

Dale was an active member of the community.  He continued to be an ambassador of education, serving on the local school board for several years.  He was also a member of the Delisle Minor Hockey Board for many years when his kids were playing hockey.  Later, he became a member of the executive of the Eagle Creek Wildlife Federation and was instrumental in the yearly fundraiser.

Dale was never one to sugar coat things, you always knew where you stood with him.  To him, the world was black or white. He always took the time to visit with people as he was genuinely interested in what people were doing and what they had to say.  He made friends wherever he went as he was very outgoing, had a great sense of humor and a quick wit.  He touched the lives of many and will never be forgotten.

Dale will be lovingly remembered by his dear wife Linda; his children, Doug(Barb)Kielo, Jody(Neil McConnachie; his grandchildren, Meagan, Eryn, Mitchell Kielo and Neil W., Avery McConnachie; his siblings Jane(Don) Skene, Ron (RoseAnne) Kielo, Bob(Sheryl) Kielo; his in-laws, Larry(Peggy) Aug, Donna(Cliff) Skauge, Bill(Diane) Aug, Rosalyn(Carmen) Harris and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother, Jim Kielo; his parents, Wesley and Winnifred Kielo; his son, Scott Kielo and his in-laws, Orville and Rose Aug. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or Diabetes Canada.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Brandi Orth and her team at Dignity Home Care Solutions for the support and compassionate care they provided for Dale so he could remain at home during his final days.  They are a special group of people that made Dale’s last wish come true.

A Celebration of Dale's Life will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at the Delisle Curling Club.  For those unable to attend the service, it will be livestreamed and can be viewed by clicking the link above on the day of the service.
