It is with profound sadness that the Laverty family announces the passing of their beloved husband, father, uncle, granddad, and great granddad.  Thomas Michael Laverty passed away peacefully in Saskatoon on Saturday, January 28th at the age of 85 years. Tom is survived and missed by his wife, Sally (nee Quinn); his children, Eileen (Greg), Tom (Christine), John (Tracy), Terry (Kari), and Sarah (Josiah); his grandchildren, Courtney (Jason), Andrea, Jordan, Keegan (Karena), Keara (Drew), Katharina, Liam, Dexter, and Niamh; great-grandchildren, Dominic and Daiya; Lyn Block; and all extended family in Canada, Ireland, England, and Australia. Tom was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland to parents, John and Matilda (Margaret) Laverty on January 11th 1938 and grew up with siblings on Thames Street. Tom had a gift for math and worked in finance for many years. On July 17th, 1965, Tom and Sally were married and started a family together. In June of 1972, Tom and Sally immigrated to Canada and eventually settled in Saskatoon. Tom enjoyed 22 years working at the Saskatoon Correctional Centre and went on to work part-time at the Holiday Park Golf Course during his retirement. Tom had a wonderful sense of humour, a contagious smile, and a great laugh. He seemed to have a saying for every occasion; you could always count on him for sound advice, a good story, or a witty remark. Tom had many adventures with his wife, Sally, travelling with family. Tom loved family gatherings and any chance to have a game of pool or ping-pong with anyone who would challenge him. He spent numerous years coaching and cheering on his kids and grandkids from the sidelines as they played hockey, baseball, lacrosse, and, most importantly, soccer.  Anyone who visited Tom and Sally will know of Tom’s generosity, as it was hard to leave the house empty-handed. For Tom, family was everything and he treated everyone as part of his. Please join the family in a Celebration of Tom’s life on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at 1:30 pm at Saskatoon Funeral Home. The Service will be livestreamed and can be accessed at www.saskatoonfuneralhome.com where condolences may also be left for the family. The family extends their thanks to Dr. Meguro, the medical staff at RUH, and SHA Homecare Staff for their exceptional care.In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation to a charity of your choice.
