ANDERSON, Joan Leckie (Fotheringham) – September 16, 1933 – December 3, 2022

Joan, beloved wife, mother, grandma and great grandma passed away peacefully with family by her side Saturday, December 3, 2022. She leaves to celebrate her life and mourn her passing her loving husband of 67 years, Al; her children Jackie (Harry) Smith, Gillian (Eric) Grisdale, Bodie and Archie Grisdale, Zach, Logan (Emily); Judy (David) Jahnke, Elisabeth, Daniel and Annelise; Karen (Pat) Kelly, Julia and Stephen; Kirk (Shauna) Anderson, Jenna and Luke.  She was predeceased by her parents Mabel and David Fotheringham, her brother Bruce Fotheringham and her son Doug Anderson.

Joan was born in Watrous, SK, on September 16, 1933. She went to school in Watrous through grade 11 and then in grade 12 attended LCBI in Outlook, SK where she made life long friends. Al and Joan first met in Watrous when they were teenagers and it was love at first sight.  Theirs was an amazing love story and they were incredibly devoted to each other and supported each other always.  Al will miss her immensely. They were married in 1955 and recently celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. Mom attended the University of Saskatchewan and became a teacher, working in Foam Lake and at Queen Elizabeth School in Saskatoon.  Mom was a dedicated and loving mother to her 5 children. She was blessed with her middle child Doug, being born with cerebral palsy and this was truly where she shone and showed her limitless patience, compassion, dedication and unending love. She was an amazing grandma and great-grandma attending thousands of sporting events, music recitals and plays.  Most memorable for the grandkids was “Grandma Day” and Sunday brunch. Our entire family has enjoyed many memorable summers with Mom and Dad at the family cabin at Emma Lake and some awesome vacations in Clearwater Beach, Florida.

Everyone who met Mom liked her instantly, she had a way of making people feel welcome and appreciated. Mom always put her family’s needs ahead of her own and she is an incredible example for us to follow. She was a women of quiet faith, which was shown through her life of service and love for others.

Joan’s family would like to thank the staff at Samaritan Place for their excellent care and compassion for our Mom and also thank Liz who was mom’s personal caregiver for the past 2 years and was a wonderful companion and friend for our Mom.

A celebration of Joan’s life will be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at 2:00pm at Zion Lutheran Church, 323 4th Ave S, Saskatoon.
