Obituary of Michael Bone
Michael Robert Bone
January 17th, 1963 – August 21, 2022
Michael was born in Ottawa and raised in Saskatoon, where he grew up playing sports and making lifelong friendships. Mike graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Saskatchewan and spent his career as a wealth advisor. In 1995 he married Cynthia (Cindy) Block and together they built a life they truly loved with son, Casey, and daughter, Davis, and the furry ones, including and especially Belle. Mike’s family life was action-packed with kids’ sports, dog walks, golf, marathons and lake time at the cabin. We just had so much fun, with as much love and laughter as our hearts could hold.
Mike was a devoted son, husband, father and loyal friend. He was honoured to work with so many wonderful clients, many of whom became close friends. Mike was kind, generous, easy-going and renowned for his quick wit and deadpan humour. He loved the outdoors where he spent virtually every day on Meewasin Trail, a golf course or Blackstrap Lake. He also loved football, basketball, poker, rum and ice cream, and the friends who often joined him.
Mike excelled at many things, especially parenthood. From the time the kids were small to recent times, he was game for anything they wanted to do. There were endless hours of Red Rover, Hacky Sack, soccer juggling and storage unit acquisitions - and it was often hard to tell who was having the most fun. Mike was immensely proud to be Casey and Davis’ dad, and grateful to see them pursuing their dreams.
Few people knew Michael’s passion for the arts. He was a fan of the symphony, art museums and live theatre. He loved the French language and never missed an opportunity to enhance his skills through education or visits to French cities. Music was ubiquitous wherever Mike was, and many paycheques were dedicated to the acquisition of carefully curated trunks of vinyl and thousands of on-line song purchases. He loved live concerts, including Davis on the piano in our living room. Mike liked smart films and documentaries. He was a voracious reader and a student of world affairs.
Our family was gutted and heartbroken when Mike was diagnosed with brain cancer. It has been a difficult journey, made easier by a man who refused to stop living. He stayed active and filled as many moments as possible with the people, places and things that gave him the most joy. We are beyond grateful to everyone who supported us.
Michael leaves behind Cindy, Casey, Davis & Belle, his loving and steadfast parents Mary Ann Blocman and Robert Bone (Karen), Sisters Nathalie Pawlachuk (Bryan) & Michael, Ethan, Gabe, and Signe Bone (James Kurczaba), brother Chris Bone & Austyn, Bohdi, sisters-in-law, Corina Clarke (Kevin) & Amanda Briant, Craig Briant, and Cherie Gogol (Lee) & Laney, Sam, Will, brother-in-law Curtis Block (Lisa) & Liam Finn, Jack, Ara, Godmother Liliana Nelska – and more genuine friends than most of us could imagine.
A Memorial Reception will be held on Tuesday, August 30th from 2pm-4pm at the Glen at Crossmount, with a tribute at 2:30pm. (10 Glen Road, Crossmount, SK, 5 Kms South of Saskatoon on Lorne Ave).
Mike loved our community. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider donating to a local charity.
