It is with sorrow that the family of Florence Altrogge announces her passing at St Ann’s Home on Tuesday, Dec 7th, 2021. Florence will be lovingly remembered by her children – Richard (Alice), Michelle (Normand Fontaine), Norman, David (Audrey), Carmelle (David Christiansen). Grandmere had 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her 2 husbands Alfred Altrogge and Edwin Altrogge, her daughter Annette, her sisters Hermine, Doril, Laurette and Therese, and her parents Gedeon and Eglantine Masson.
Florence was born in Prud’homme SK and grew up on the family farm. After high school, Florence attended Teachers College in Moose-Jaw and then taught in one room schools K – 12, at Clavet, Delmas and at St Paul’s Elementary in Saskatoon.
In 1952, she married Alfred Altrogge and had 2 children with him. While expecting her 3rd child, Alfred suddenly passed away. In 1960, Mom returned to her farm roots when she married Edwin Altrogge, her first husband’s younger brother. In St Benedict, she gave birth to 3 more children making for a blended family that Edwin called “complete mixed farming”.
In the 1970’s, Florence worked tirelessly as one of the main founding members of the Board of Directors that established the Carlton Trail Community College, with the end-goal of bringing adult education to the dozens of small farming communities within 100 kms of the head office in Humboldt, SK.
After 32 years on the farm, Mom moved back to Saskatoon, nearer to her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed company and entertaining. Her door was always open for homemade soups, fresh bread and tasty desserts. She was a selfless soul who loved much and was much loved in return.
To all the staff at St Ann’s Home, a big thank you for all your devoted care to Mom over the past few years.
