Obituary of Loraine Helen Schultz

Loraine Helen Schultz (Christopherson) made her final trip around the sun, passing peacefully with her family by her side on July 29, 2021.

Born March 22 1943 to Edythe and Arthur Christopherson, in the small town of Kinistino, Saskatchewan. Loraine was the oldest of four.

After graduating from Weldon High School in 1961 she enrolled at the St. Paul’s Hospital Nursing College, becoming a RN in 1964. Loraine worked in St. Paul’s ICU, Postpartum unit, and finished her career as a Palliative Care Coordinator, in the only Palliative Care Unit in Saskatchewan at St. Paul's Hospital.

In November of 1964 she married Bill Schultz. They raised their family and had their careers in Saskatoon. Upon retirement, they moved permanently to their cabin at Meeting Lake, Saskatchewan.

Loraine is survived by her three children: Darren (Tracey) of Calgary; Craig (Laura), along with their blended family, Ben and Kallym of Vancouver; Marla (J.P.) and their daughters, Violet and Olivia of Calgary; her siblings: Lorne (Sandra) of Weldon and Caroline (Gary) of Kelowna; many nieces and nephews; and honorary family member Tony (Tammy) of Denver and his two daughters, Hannah and Sophie.  Her grandchildren chose the name “Nanna”, as Granny was not going to ‘fly’ with her, and it was her grandchildren that brought her such profound joy and pride.

Loraine was predeceased by Bill in 2005, and her youngest brother David in 2017.

In September of 2009 Loraine married Norm Selby. Norm has two children: Megan (James) and their daughters, Sevrina and Naomi of Okotoks, and Don (Tina) and their daughter Kestrel, of Saskatoon.  During their marriage they lived at Meeting Lake, moving back to Saskatoon in 2018 where she reconnected with her many old friends and the church at Redeemer.  Wherever Mom chose to live she always developed a strong connection with the community, including the ‘little church’ in Spiritwood, Spiritwood Second Chance store, and the Pentecostal Church Soup Kitchen.

Loraine was an avid traveller, visiting Alaska, Caribbean, Central America, Europe and Asia.  Leaving part of her heart in Nepal.  She immensely enjoyed time with her family and friends, and all the adventures they shared.  She attempted her skills at golfing with fellow retired nurses, which was more of a social gathering consisting of shenanigans and laughter.

Mom will be most remembered for her love of family, her contagious laughter, along with her amazing cinnamon buns and ginger snap cookies. She was a compassionate and patient listener and brought ease of friendship to everyone she met and accepted into her life. Her sense of adventure was evident with her trekking in Nepal, tobogganing rides, zip lining, quadding, snowmobiling, skiing, and recent white water rafting. She had an infatuation with shoes, especially a love for red ones. Throughout her life Loraine's faith has remained strong and steadfast. She will be welcomed and embraced by many in her next stage.

Loraine's Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, August 5, 2021 at 2:30pm at Redeemer Lutheran Church (812 Preston Avenue, Saskatoon) with Pastor Trent presiding.

At the request of Mom, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Bill and Loraine Schultz Memorial Fund for Nepalese Children Education. This fund is a special project of the Schultz family supporting the education of low caste children in Nepal.
