Gloria Gallant posted a condolence
Monday, July 26, 2021
This is Gloria, youngest daughter of Hector and Lillian (Provost) Hortie. I did not have the pleasure of knowing my cousin but did meet my Uncle Henry and Aunt Ginny. My mother often regaled us with family stories and I wish so much that I had met and known Yvonne. I wish also that I could ease the pain of your loss. I pray that the wonderful, loving memories you have will bring you comfort in the time ahead. I have no doubt that the loving kindness you describe in Yvonne will live on in your family and be a beautiful legacy for all. Warmest wishes to you all

We are so sorry to hear of the passing of Yvonne. I remember her from many years ago in my youth when we visited Saskatoon. My mother Lillian (Provost) Hortie was a warm, wonderful and loving woman and her love for her family was always evident. She always delighted us with family remembrances and I always felt a part of the bigger picture of the Provost clan. As you move through the silence and sadness and long for one more day, one more word, one more touch, you may not understand why she had to leave before you were ready to say goodbye, you will to remember not just that she died, but that she lived. And in that life, she gave you memories too beautiful to forget. Your treasured memories will always be with you like a book you can read over and over and some day, smile as you read it again. The physical distance between us may be great but know that my heart is there with you.

Elaine Passey posted a condolence

My name is Elaine (& Charlie ) Passey, daughter of Lillian Provost, (& Hector ) Hortie ( from Nova Scotia, Canada. I am a cousin to Yvonne and wanted to send our loving condolences.
While I knew Ginny a bit better as we were of the same age, I met Yvonne along with the many wonderful cousins in Saskatchewan! I have fond memories of our scattered visits and all the noisy fun & chatter of family! I remember Hank & Ginny & their beautiful family, and wish there could have been more visits than we had. But our Mom always kept us posted with updates of your family and their news! Family was central in many conversations!
But as I read cousin Yvonne’s obituary, I realized that the same love, compassion, & joy permeated much of the Provost line! Certainly your aunt Lillian instilled those qualities in our family.
How precious to read about Yvonne’s love & caring to you all! While your hearts are heavy with sadness at this time of loss, we extend our hands & hearts to you, from our family, with loving compassion, & prayers that you will be comforted in time with so many joyous memories of Yvonne, as mother/ grandmother/ friend.
And let the stories of laughter, & love, pranks & hilarity continue down the generations of your loving family to bring smiles and strength & warmth to all who come close!
Much love & prayer, Elaine & Charlie & family

I am Carolyn Hortie, sister of Lianne Neima and Theresa Gallant. Yvonne was my cousin, my mother was Lillian Provost. Grandma Provost would come to visit us each summer for many, many years and she always brought news of our Provost cousins. When I was young I made a couple of trips to Saskatoon and loved being included in your loving warmth. I remember Yvonne when she was young , she was always happy with a light heart. I am so sorry for your loss, Yvonne was still young. If any of you travel to Nova Scotia pleas know there is an open door here to welcome you, all of you. I would love to hear how you are all doing, though much of Canada separates us, we are family. May Yconne’s love being you peace in your grief at this time.

Sending love and peace to the family of Yvonne, my cousin.
While I rarely had the opportunity to spend time with my extended family, you are no less a part of my memories and my own family. My mother, Lillian Provost, (Hank’s sister) invested sooo much time reminding me from a young age, who was who’s and what they were up to. I had the pleasure of attending a family reunion in Rosetown , in 1982, and again the year after my mother passed on, in Saskatoon in 2000. Both times, I felt instantly welcomed by the Provost family! Oh there were soo many similarities!!!
Yvonne’s name came instantly to mind when my sister Lianne told me the news of her passing. I knew who’s she was, and where she lived, and her age within just a few years!! And longed for a time when I could have visited ….
So it may seem weird to get my message now, but as my generation of family decreases, I know the pain of loosing one so close, and you will all, always be family. How I wish I could hold you, and find some words to bring you comfort.
Should you ever travel to Nova Scotia, know that you will be welcomed with open arms by this branch of the Provost family!! How wonderful it would be to chat about Yvonne, who sounds and looks so much like “one of us” !
I still feel and talk to my own mom, I suspect you will do the same. And while her presence will now be different, she will nonetheless be present. Of this I am sure.
Please know how deeply we care.
Much love to you all, Theresa and hubby Joe Gallant and family

Lianne Neima posted a condolence

To dear Andrea, Shanna, to Randall and Linda, and my Provost cousins.
I am the daughter of Lillian Provost and Hector Hortie, one of the "East Coasters", Lianne Neima.
My memories of Yvonne are glimpses into the past, of summer vacations spent with the Saskatchewan cousins. While our visits were few, the memories of spending time with extended family was so special, as our time together was rare. I remember Yvonne had a large smile and a warm and welcoming heart. I am truly sorry for your loss.
Those we love never go far from us, as we hear their voices in the rushing of the wind, and we hear their words when we say them ourselves. We see their gentleness and beauty in the gardens they tended, and what we know of love was learned from their example. Their memories light a corner of our hearts, and keep darkness at bay. You need only say their name and they are with us once more.
May God bless you and keep you through this difficult time. You will be in our thoughts and prayers.
Lianne and Jack Neima

To Yvonne's Family,
Here is what I will remember most about Yvonne:
> her smile and laughs, given freely and often;
> her strong quiet faith, willing to share with those who need it,
> her ability to know what she wants and how to get it no matter what obstacles that might be in her way,
> her warm open heart,
> her sheer love of life and those who were close to her in all aspects of her life.
Thinking of you all at this time of reflection.
