Obituary of Barry John Crow

Barry John Crow

March 18, 1959 - March 7, 2021

Barry passed peacefully at his home in Saskatoon in the care of his loving family after a valiant lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer, at the age of 61. He was the son of Les and Marlyn (Sorensen) Crow of Saskatoon. Barry grew up in Saskatoon, where he completed Grade 12 at Walter Murray Collegiate and earned his Automotive Mechanics Diploma at Kelsey Institute. He completed his apprenticeship and achieved Red Seal journeyman status through work at the Sorensen and Sons John Deere Dealership in Theodore SK. In 1984 he married Heather Brittain and moved to Nova Scotia in 1985 where they started their family. He operated his own Crow Auto Solutions business before joining Tusket Toyota in NS. He became a Toyota Master Technician and won several awards for his technical skills. In 2006 he moved back to SK and worked for Yorkton Toyota; then Ens Toyota in Saskatoon.

Barry is predeceased by his paternal and maternal grandparents; his father, Les Crow; and brother-in-law, Darcey Busse.

Barry will be forever remembered and missed by his daughter, Katelyn Crow, and her son, Lucas Landers; daughter, Brittany (Brett) Nagy, and their children, Brynlee, Ethan and Owen; and his son, Jason Crow; girlfriend, Raiza Guerrero, and her son, Tyler; mother, Marlyn Crow; sisters: Cheryl (Denis) Cote; Wendy (Tim) Kovatch; Cindy Busse; Janet (John) Phillips; nephews, nieces, and many cherished extended family and friends. 

Barry leaves a legacy to his family and friends as a loving, gentle man - kind, loyal, respectful and caring.  Growing up, Barry enjoyed working with horses and being active in sports. He excelled at bowling, and joined bowling leagues wherever he lived. Barry's phrase, "Watch this!" often led to something memorable, but not always in the way he intended! He said Good Spirit Lake was his favourite place on earth. He enjoyed all kinds of water sports and being with his family and friends there. Family trips to Hawaii were the next best thing to being at the lake. Some favourite NS family activities were swimming at the YMCA, camping, tubing, clam digging, and riding dirt bikes. Barry was very proud of the log house he built for his family there. Barry was an avid and loyal NASCAR fan. He loved electronics and anything with wheels. If it ran, he'd drive it. If it didn't run, he'd fix it.  Barry's ingenuity and skill to build and fix almost anything meant he was always working on project ideas, to the very end. He was especially proud of the scooter he designed and built to drive around with his grandchildren. He was always generous with his time to help family, neighbours, friends, and even strangers. Barry lived out the motto "Never quit!" to the very end. He will be forever missed by all who knew him.

Barry's family gratefully acknowledges the Symptom Management and Palliative Outpatient Team; especially the dedicated care, compassion and commitment of the Palliative Home Care nurses who supported Barry in his determination to live his life on his own terms.

Saskatoon Funeral home is entrusted with cremation arrangements, and in accordance with Barry's wishes, a private family celebration of life will follow at a future date.

In lieu of flowers or other tributes, the family suggests that to honour Barry and the countless wonderful family memories made at Good Spirit Lake, we will be installing a new bench there, dedicated to him.
