I meet Orme and Shirley in the 90,s. Orme quickly became a very good friend with my father Al and I . We built the first hospital lottery homes in Calgary and the Edmonton till 2005. We loved working with Orme and then Andy. Knowing Orme he got the most out of life. And in a hockey analogy he left nothing on the ice!! I will always have found memories. J

No man ever gave so much love or had so much love. To know Orme was to love him. He boosted the oxygen in every room just by walking into it. Wade remembers flying Orme down the river to look for sandbars so he wouldn't hit them with his boat and how much fun they had organizing charter flights to Edmonton to watch NHL hockey games. Then of course there was Kinsmen poker...As couples we played cards in Kona and as families enjoyed Sunday brunch (our daughters had such adoration of Andy and Anne).Recently, we laughed until we cried recounting all these stories with Orme and Shirley in PHX. Orme made every smile larger, every laugh deeper and every party brighter. He will never be gone and especially not forgotten.

I am so sad to hear of Orme's passing. Please accept my condolences. Orme comforted me when my father died, and he was so kind and welcoming to me when I was in Saskatoon. My son and I both enjoyed hearing stories of his pursuits in life and business. Despite health challenges, he seemed constantly in motion with new goals and ideas. He maintained his sense of adventure, even convincing me to dress up as Santa Claus and hand out gifts to kids at the S.O. Asher Christmas party. It remains my fondest memory of that trip (despite my rather poor and unskilled appearance as Santa). Rest in Peace, Orme. With love to the whole Asher family from Dave Bratzer

We have lost one of the really good ones. Always up, always cheerful, and a true and generous friend. Orme could turn any occasion into a party, like the time he packed us into his old Chevy and drove all over Saskatoon in search of the right olives for the martinis. And, oh, all those times at Emma Lake. We enjoyed Orme and Shirley's gracious hospitality in Saskatoon, at Emma Lake, and in Hawaii. So many laughs. So many memories. There is a big void in this world now

The lottery was so integral to the crucial work being done at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. It was a well-oiled machine by the time I arrived at The Foundation, so Orme and his team at S.O. Asher continued to innovate, thinking large and never wanting to rest on their laurels. And year after year, Orme and the team fine-tuned the lottery, making it more and more exciting and more and more fruitful for the cause. But best of all, Orme hired people who had the same values -- integrity, personality, diligence -- and that was what made the difference.
I send my heartfelt condolences to Shirley and the entire `family`at S.O. Asher.

The Princess Margaret Lottery is now in its 25th very successful year! Orme was also a very special 'phone voice' to my very young son many years ago on Christmas Eve as Santa! I provided Orme a cheat sheet with details only 'Santa could know'. The magic and joy he brought into our home on those special occasions were immeasurable! You will always be remembered as an amazing, kind, funny and loving man and it has been my great pleasure in knowing you and your family!

Dear Shirley, Andy, Anne & Bev:
I share your sadness on the passing of your amazing husband, father & brother. I spent yesterday sharing the sad news with former Nutana Collegiate classmates across North America. Like many people, I remember Orme as a guy who could spell "fun" many ways and who was a true & loyal friend. And I also remember his genuine concern for people, coupled with his generosity. Finally, I think of Orme as someone who was totally focused whenever any challenges, be they business or medical, presented themselves. This photo of Orme was taken at our Nutana Collegiate 2010 Reunion. Orme generously supported this event and also placed a small dedication notice to his sister Anne, a former Senior Pin at NCI, a wonderful women who left us far too early.
BIG HUGS to the Asher family. My memory of your "bigger-than-life" Orme will never fade. Sincere sympathy, Ron Holland
