Byron Traynor

Obituary of Byron Traynor

Byron passed away suddenly on August 18, 2020 at his home in Saskatoon.  Byron was born October 27, 1948 in Regina, Saskatchewan.  Byron is predeceased by his wife Paulette, his parents Clair and Elinore, his niece Jaime and great nephew Caden.  He is survived by siblings Beth (Sue Cook), Ken (Trish McAdie), Dave (Heather Wood) and Janice.  He was a wonderful uncle to niece Kelly Traynor, to nephews Randy, Doug, Ken and Cam Cripps, to Cory Traynor, and to Zola McAdie and their families.  Byron was a good friend, uncle and brother and is greatly missed by friends and family.

Byron grew up in Regina and attended university in Edmonton and Regina.  Throughout his life he worked to support children and youth.  He taught high school phys ed, instructed at Outward Bound in Australia, was a youth worker with Ranch Erlo and finished his working life as Executive Director of Boys and Girls Clubs of Saskatoon.  Byron was a tremendous advocate for youth in Saskatoon and spent years coordinating their annual golf tournament and Artists Show and Sale fundraisers. Byron was an avid golfer at Dakota Dunes in Saskatoon and enjoyed his regular golfing holidays with friends.

Byron was a great storyteller, as his friends and family will attest. He always remembered birthdays and special events (even though he didn’t always admit it) and loved to make people laugh. Even those who were sometimes the focus of his dry humor had to admit that he did make us laugh.

In recent years, he had begun spending some of the winter in Arizona and California, where he could indulge his golfing habit, while visiting with good friends and first cousins who also spent time there. His absence will be noted.
