With saddened hearts the family of Elizabeth (Liz) Chomyn Rayner announces her passing on May 2, 2020 at the age of 89 years. She was the much loved mother of Christine (Randy) Derksen and Melody Williams, Carey Chomyn and Ron (Laura)Chomyn. She was a devoted and loving Baba to her grandchildren, Tyler (Farrell) Derksen, Callie(Brian) Wright, Dustin Williams, Jillian (Derek Kowalski) Chomyn, Chase(Jasmine Yeomans) Chomyn, Travis (Mikhaila) Chomyn, Clarke Chomyn, Kendra Chomyn, McKinley Chomyn, Hayden Chomyn and her great grandchildren, Habsan, Isla, Oliver, Bennett and Ava.  She also leaves behind her sisters, Mary Shutiak and Darlene (Larry) Diederich, sister-in-law Nettie Chomyn and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Elizabeth was born on September 19, 1930 near Yellow Creek, SK. She attended McCloy Creek Elementary School and Yellow Creek High School.  In 1948, she moved to Saskatoon and there she met and married Fred Chomyn on October 15, 1949. They were married 37 years until Fred's sudden passing in May, 1986.  During that time she was active in the Saints Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Women's League, often on the Social Committee. There were family trips to Hawaii that created many special memories. Mom stayed home to raise her family until March, 1976 when she went to work as a sales associate for The Hudson's Bay Company. She was always aware of what was stylish and was known for her good taste in clothes.  She found her work in the Mirror Room rewarding as she helped her many returning customers and had a good relationship with her coworkers. Many are still her friends to this day.
After being on her own for 18 years, Liz married William Rayner on February 28, 2004. They were married for 15 years until his passing in May, 2019.
Until her recent illness, our Mom was strong and determined, yet gentle with a kind heart.  She loved to walk and amazed us all with her stamina. She always had a good story or two to tell everyone about her childhood and life.  She was renowned for her perogies and all her grandchildren have a favourite recipe of hers that they enjoy. Special oatmeal cookies, Christmas corn flake cookies, poppy seed chiffon cake with her special boiled frosting are just a few. Christmas Eve at Baba's, especially when the grandkids were young was a wonderful combination of tradition and chaotic fun.  She cooked and baked all our favorite dishes and then gift opening with all the cousins was a happy somewhat boisterous celebration for all. Those times are now a part of our treasured memories.
Due to the current situation, a private service will be held for immediate family.  Elizabeth will be laid to rest next to her husband Fred at Saskatoon Woodlawn Cemetery. A special thank you to the Palliative Care team with Home Care. In lieu of cards and flowers please make a donation in memory of Elizabeth to a charity of your choice.
