Mel and I worked together at DOJ. One day, Mel backtracked after something caught her eye as she walked past my office. "Kris, I didn't know you had a tattoo!" she exclaimed. "Have a look," I proudly invited her, while throwing my foot onto my desk, revealing my ankle and some square-shaped green and black ink. Together, we laughed uproariously when Mel realized it was only a temporary tattoo of the Department of Justice logo. My street cred was short-lived. That's what I will remember about Mel: her enthusiasm, her deep, throaty laugh, and how infectious both were. Mel was fun to be with and I've missed her for a long time.
