Eric Johannson passed away on June 19, 2019 after a series of health issues over the past few years. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Eric was born on June 29, 1936 and grew up on the family farm near Margo watching older siblings go off to war in Europe, attending country school, idolizing his big brothers and teasing his younger sisters. He and Kay Harvey were married in 1956 and lived in Wadena, Canora, Asquith and Biggar. Eric worked for Miners Construction for many years and built many schools, hospitals and banks in communities throughout Saskatchewan. After retiring from construction, he and Kay farmed at Asquith for over 20 years before retiring to Biggar.
Eric was predeceased by his youngest son, Ernest and his brothers and sisters Arnie, Elmer, Dave, Chris, Herb, Olaf, Johanna, and Helga. He is survived by his wife, Kay; his children Heather (Gerald) Rasmussen and Terry (Janice) Johannson; his grandchildren Dale (Sarah) Johannson, Theresa (Wendall) Elford, Rochelle Johannson (Lorin Kirchner) and his great grandchildren Ry and Rhys Johannson and Brody, Carter, Tyrell, Kayley and Jaylyn Elford. Also grieving Eric’s loss are his sister and brother-in-law Margaret and Don Ottmann and his sister-in-law Joyce Johannson as well as many nieces, nephews and friends including his AA family.
Eric’s family express our appreciation to Shannon, the staff and residents at Sunshine Family Care Home in Biggar for truly creating a new home for Dad and to the staff at Heritage Manor in Kindersley for their kindness and care during his last days.
A remembrance service will be held at Saskatoon Funeral Home (338 – 4th Avenue North, Saskatoon) on Friday, June 28, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. We request that you consider honouring Eric’s love of animals with a donation in his memory to the SPCA or New Hope Dog Rescue or to a charity of your choice instead of flowers.
