Obituary of Edith Christine Davis
Mrs. Edith Davis (nee Gustafson) passed away Thursday, March 28, 2019 in Saskatoon. She was born on September 17, 1919 in Kelliher, SK. to Charles and Hulda (nee Erickson) Gustafson. In 1939 she attended Normal School in Saskatoon from there she went on to teach in many rural communities throughout Saskatchewan. Edith was teaching in Leroy, SK where she met her future husband Clayton, he had just returned from the War. They were married on August 6, 1947 in Melfort, Sk. They spent some time at the family homestead near Lac Vert, Sk before moving to Leroy where they ran the Leroy Hotel from 1947-1963. During their time in Leroy they had 3 children twins Doug and Dave and daughter Joan. After selling the hotel they moved to Naicam, and then to Saskatoon. Edith taught at Greystone Heights School for 6 years. Clayt and Edith purchased Bazaar Novelty in 1977; after Clayt’s passing in 1985 she worked part-time until she retired in 1987. Edith’s love for travel grew in retirement and she went on to visit many places worldwide including Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Australia. She also enjoyed Curling, Bowling, helping with her church and volunteering.
Edith is survived by her son Doug (Norine) Davis; children Erica (Jason) Dalton, their children Jacob and Ella; Brad Davis and his son Austin Davis; daughter-in-law Carrol Davis; children Brent (Cortnee), their children Sonny and Mona; Krista (Joel) Thon their children Brealyn, Kaden and Makena; daughter Joan (Dominique) Bourdon; children Marc (Melissa) Bourdon, their daughter Everly; Katie (Sean) Hebdon, their daughter Oakleigh; Deanne (Sergio) Bonilla, their children Samantha and Danielle; Michelle (Tim) Sparrow, their children Aaron, Abby and Judah. Also her sisters-in-law Marg Jones, Anna Davis and Dorothy Davis. Edith was predeceased by her parents Charles and Hulda Gustafson, husband Clayton Davis, son Dave Davis in 2017, sisters Elsie Gustafson, Edna (Scott) Clark and Dagney (Basil) Lalond, brothers-in-law Robert (Edith) Davis, Jack and Eric Davis and sister-in-law Lois (Al) Rowe. There will be a Celebration of her life Friday, April 5, 2019 at 1:00 pm from St. Martin’s United Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lutheran Intermediate Care Home (1212 Osler Street, Saskatoon, Sk S7N-9Z9), St. Martins United Church (2617 Clarence Ave S, Saskatoon, Sk. S7J 1M5) or a charity of one’s choice.
