Obituary of David Edwin Hyde
It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to David Hyde a husband, father, uncle, brother, friend, conversationalist, band mate, comic, coach and mentor. On October 6th, David suffered a severe traumatic brain injury. It is a with a broken heart that we share that David, the one who cherished living, laughing and loving, breathed his last breath on Thursday, October 11, 2018. He left this life in the presence of his family, listening to the music that was most meaningful for him. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, son Erik and wife Erin and the grand-boys Rowan, Keith and Pacey; daughter Kathlyne (Ben); his siblings: Allan (JoAnn), Randy (Brenda), Loranna, and Patrick (Joanne), father in law Edwin Povhe, and sister in laws Erica and Julianna (Barry); along with numerous nieces and nephews (with special mention for his nephews Gordon and Steven) and last but not least the many cousins out west.He was predeceased by his parents Allan and Monica, his mother in law Josica, and most recently his brother in law Gord Laing. David crossed paths with many people. He worked for 27 years at the University of Saskatchewan where he began as a caretaker, from there worked in the Admin Post Office, in Printing Sevices and landing finally in his vocation working as an electrician. He believed in participating in what you believe and worked for many years with CUPE 1975, he was a Shop Steward, Member at Large and Vice President; and member of the Confined Space Rescue Team. He loved to be a coach and when he had the opportunity to mentor apprentice electricians, his teaching strength came forward. He loved sports...being a Rider and Canadiens fan. He enjoyed playing hockey, ball, golf, bocce ball, snorkeling, throwing a football and bowling with the GutterPucks. As you can imagine David had verve, imagination and drive. His children were a pride and joy and seeing them do what they loved doing was important. Through the younger years of his son, he coached soccer, ball and hockey. When he wasn’t the coach, he was a very engaged fan for football and lacrosse. He loved going to Erik’s music performances. No one could measure the sheer delight when he would jam with his “Buddy.”His pride carried on equally with his daughter as he watched through teary eyes through 21 years and counting of dance performances of his beautiful ballerina, Katie. Music was an important part of David’s life. He was the drummer of the rock band Excessive Behaviour and with his wife was a member of the Saskatoon Community Bands (Jazz and Concert). We know that David prized family and friendships. He looked for ways to bring a smile to others, to help when help was needed, to play, to laugh, to talk, to work hard and to love. He would want us to remember him as a man of character, courage, humour, adventure and genuine caring. A Celebration of David’s life will be held on Saturday, October 20, at 10:00 a.m. at Saskatoon Funeral Home with Sue Panattoni as celebrant. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a fund for “Music Education for D.Hyde Grandchildren”. Condolences may be left at www.saskatoonfuneralhome.com. Arrangements entrusted to SASKATOON FUNERAL HOME (306-244-5577).
