Barry William Slowski

It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, dad and Pampa, Barry William Slowski. Barry was born on February 26, 1950 in Canora, SK to Anne (Stratychuk) and Bill (William) Slowski.  He passed away suddenly on the morning of Tuesday, October 2, 2018.  Barry was predeceased by both of his parents, his special aunties as well as his in-laws, Nick and Annie Bodnar, brother-in-law, Wally Bodnar, and special niece, Karen Bodnar-Meinert.  Left to mourn his passing is loving wife of 35 years, Pat,  his children, Barb (Paul), Karen and Alex and his most beloved grandsons, Lucas and Hayden.  He is also survived by his brothers, Vlad (Audrey) and their children Ben and Becky and their families; Zennon (Wendy) and their children Nick and Zach, his sister in law, Leona and “brother” Jerry Hudy and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  Barry completed his schooling in Hudson Bay, SK and went on to attend the University of Saskatchewan convocating with a Bachelor of Commerce degree.  Summer jobs while attending university included working for his Dad’s construction company and the lumber mill in Hudson Bay.  While at university Barry resided at Mohyla Institute where friends and fun were plentiful and where he also met the love of his life, Patricia Bodnar.  They were married on May 14, 1983.  In 1992, Pat and Barry were blessed with three children, Barb, Karen and Alex who meant the world to them.  Barry was so proud to be lovingly called “Pampa” by grandsons, Lucas and Hayden.
In 1974, Barry entered the work world where his first and only professional job was at Butler Byers Insurance to whom he gave 45 years of dedicated, loyal service. He took great pride in watching the business expand and grow. Sadly his transition in to semi-retirement was interrupted by his unexpected and untimely death.
During his career in the insurance business Barry served as director on the Insurance Brokers of Saskatchewan Association.  He also served on the Ilarion Residence and the New Community Credit Union boards. He was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church where he often volunteered his time.  Barry retired from his position at Butler Byers as Chief Financial Officer and partner in 2017, but continued to serve the insurance needs of his many clients. Barry had many varied interests- music, musical theatre, singing and travel.  He was a craftsman with words often creating beautiful poetry and well-written letters.  Barry loved spectator sports - fastball, hockey, curling, soccer and football.  He loved those Riders!  Barry attended many of his children’s and grandson’s sporting events as well as their other activities.  He proudly supported Pat in all her activities and events at Osler School.  His favourite place to be was at the cottage at Blackstrap Lake; boating, fishing and extending his hospitality with great food for family and friends. Prayer service will be held on Monday, October 8, 2018 at 7pm at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Funeral service will be held at 10am on Tuesday October 9th at the same location.  Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery.  Memorial donations to Manitou Camp Easter Seal or the Saskatoon SPCA will be graciously accepted.
