Wilda McMillan

Obituary of Wilda Josephine McMillan

With sadness the family of Wilda Josephine McMillan (Chovin) announces her passing on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at her home in Saskatoon. Born October 19th, 1919 on her grandparents’ farm near Vanscoy, Wilda was the eldest of four siblings. Following high school, and determined to begin her career, Wilda worked for her aunt and uncle in Major, Saskatchewan to help pay for the tuition at Normal School, where she trained to become a teacher. After teaching at several one- and two-room schools, she landed in Asquith where she met Wally McMillan, a second-generation farmer, at a dance with friends. The two married, had three children, huge gardens, many friends, camp-outs, and continued to dance everywhere they went. Wilda’s spirit and heart were truly felt when she returned to the classroom after her youngest son began high school. She loved teaching grade two, and will be remembered fondly by all of her students - especially those who were lucky enough to attend one of her year-end campouts at the farm. Wilda’s life is marked by generosity and warmth. Passionate about dancing, the great outdoors and hosting big family meals, Wilda truly loved life and had a way of making everyone feel welcome and special. Wilda approached the world with patience, curiosity and love and had just enough spirit to make sure we all noticed. She was loved by many and will be missed. Wilda was pre-deceased by her son Dale, her husband Wallace, her brothers James and John. She will be missed by daughter Joanne, son Neil (Harriet), grandchildren Ryan, Dagan (Patricia Cruiz), Jeremy, Robin ( Brent Freedman), Glyn (Xiaohui Bao) and Naomi (Kevin Wesequate), eleven great grandchildren, sister Betty (Al), brother Doug (Merle), nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Olzynski for the care that she gave to Wilda. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, October 4 at Saskatoon Funeral Home, Saskatoon.
