Just as quickly as the end of the third buzzer blares or the school bell rings, he was gone. The coach has left the bench, the principal has stepped away from his office. We have lost our patriarch; our beloved husband, brother, father, uncle, grandfather and friend. William “Bill” Thon, 75, of Pike Lake, SK, passed away suddenly on April 26, 2018. Bill was born in Saskatoon on August 3, 1942, to Carlyle and Gwen Thon. It was from his parents he learned his tremendous work ethic and through his heart he developed his passion for sports, in particular hockey and golf. This combination proved the perfect mix for his career in teaching and coaching. Through his decades as a principal, teacher, and coach he influenced and inspired thousands of people and maybe scared one or two folks straight along the way. As important as he was in the lives of so many, it was in the lives of his family he made the biggest impact. We will miss his guidance, his support, his stories and even his jokes. Bill went too quickly and too soon. He was predeceased by both his parents and his mother-in-law. Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Dian Thon (nee. Wold); his children, Scott (Deb) Thon and their sons Josh and Danny; Michelle (Barry) Barton and their children Jaime and Kyle; Nichole (Jeff) Moser and their sons River and Sinjin; and Joel (Krista) Thon and their children Brealyn, Kaden, and Makena; along with his father-in-law, Joe Wold; his sister, Lois Thon and her daughters Patricia and Jennifer; his brother-in-law, John (Shelley) Wold and their daughters Kendra and Heather. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Pike Lake Community Association (PLCSA, Site 708 Box 60 RR7, Saskatoon, SK, S7K 1N2) or the Saskatchewan Hockey Association Legacy Fund 306-789-5101 or email sherit@ sha.sk.ca. A celebration of Bill's life will be held Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the German Cultural Centre, 160 Cartwright Street East.
