Michelle and Barry and family.
I did not know your Dad personally Michelle but I heard of him from so many people in the Softball and Hockey world which I have traveled for the past 50 years in Saskatchewan and Alberta, like your Dad.
A Bill Thon coached team was a team that you never took for granted and a team that played like a team because he valued everyone on the team and continually coached the team to play as a team. Individual accolades came from team accomplishments.
His sense of community and how he rallied communities together with his leadership wherever he was so special.
Softball and hockey has lost a very good volunteer but above all a very good, solid man.
You should be extremely proud of him as he was of you!
Our family condolences to yours.
Jim

My sincerest condolences Diane and family. I was lucky to have shared in many aspects of life with Bill... principal and colleague, coach, ref and umpire and most of all a friend. Memories never die so hold them in your hearts forever. Bill left a legacy of leading by example. He was truly one of the best at everything he was involved in.
Rest in peace Thon, you will be missed by many.

I was saddened to read about Bill's passing, He was an icon for those he taught and coached, and the fellow educators with whom he worked. He was respected by those of us who were his colleagues or coached against the many teams he coached at school and in his communities. Bill was a superb organizer of tournaments and track meets. He did things right. When Bill had something to say, it was a good idea to listen.
He will be missed.
My condolences to Dian, family and friends.

We have known Bill and Dian since our mutual days in Maidstone. Bill was an old school teacher/principal. He did whatever the job required...and a lot more! Something going on at the gym tonight and it needs to be open until midnight? no problem..Some tournament happening on the weekend that required his presence?,,no worries. Bill spent countless hours transporting/chaperoning/coaching our community's children to sporting events and tournaments all over the province. Bill's driving skills were legendary. In fact, I think he still holds lap speed records for round trips down the Yellowhead with his suburban! I can only guess how many vehicles he wore out in that pursuit.
Bill knew the true value of sports in that it makes the individual a more rounded person. Bill and Dian not only educated our kids, but tried to inspire them to live up to their full potential, as some of the other condolences have pointed out. Bill was very passionate about community as well as sports.
Bill, we just wanted to say,
Thanks for a job well done.
Barry and Sharon Dick

Dian & family,
We were saddened to hear the news of Bill’s passing. Please accept our sympathy. My Dad, Paul Kotun, and my sister Shelley Brownlee send their sympathy as well. Bill was a much admired coach of many hockey teams but none more than the “Saskies” . We spent a lot of time at the rinks watching my sister Sandi play for him. We are sorry for your loss.

My most sincere sympathies to your family. Bill will be truly missed. I am thankful I had the opportunity to have Bill as my principal during my formative years as a beginning teacher! He was my rock always offering solid, sincere, consistent, and uninhibited advice. There were so many times after I left Maidstone that I wished I still had Bill in the drivers seat. His caring, supportive guidance is a permanent memory.
Sincerely, Val Laing

Mr. Thon was my Principal for 3 years in Little Pine. He pushed me to become a Principal and I always wanted to tell him I became Principal back in Little Pine. I'm sure he would have had a chuckle. He pushed me to be successful. He was my mentor and he was my friend. He was by far the best Principal I ever worked for. My deepest condolences to the family of a great man.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Bill meant so much to so many of us. His deep commitment and love for his family, his students and his community were foundational to all he did. I had the pleasure of being a teacher in his school early in my career. He showed me what a principal should be, for kids and staff both. I have not seen him for many years, but think of him often. I will miss the chance to “someday bump into him” again.

It was with great sadness on Thursday when we heard of Bill's passing. He was a Great Coach for the Border Kings but even a better friend to so many of us. We all have so many great memories and shared in so many games and trips with Bill. I still treasure all the great chat I have had the most recent when Bill was at the Allan Cup in Rosetown. Somany good conversations not only about hockey buy life in general. Bill will be Truly Missed.
Our Thoughts and Prayers go out to the entire family.
