Obituary of Orvis Fischer
Orvis Fischer (nee Glauser)
1919-2017
ORVIS GENEVIEVE FISCHER Orvis Fischer passed away peacefully on Monday, May 1, 2017 at Parkridge Centre in Saskatoon where she had been living for the past six and a half years. Orvis was born on July 1, 1919 on the family farm at Delisle to Laverna and Reuben Glauser, the fourth of seven children. She was predeceased by her parents, her loving husband Elmer, sister Arleen, and brothers Charlie, Stuart, Vernon, Calvin, and Lorne. She is survived by son Vincent and daughter Nancy. She will be missed by her sisters-in-law Mary Glauser, Evie Glauser, and Irene Fischer as well as many nieces and nephews. Orvis moved into Saskatoon with her parents in the early 1940's where she worked at Mid-West Litho and Eaton's until she met Elmer and they married in 1948. Following a short period in the Battlefords, they moved to Sutherland where Elmer had a barbershop. Orvis focussed on raising and supporting the young family and also worked part-time for over 20 years at Bob Millar's dry goods store in Sutherland until it closed in the 1970's. The family moved to College Park in 1965 where they remained until 2010. Following Elmer's retirement in 1986, Orvis and Elmer enjoyed the freedom to travel and made several trips to Europe as well as Ontario. Orvis' life was very much concentrated on family. She loved to dance and bowl and did both as long as health allowed. She also loved a good game of cards with family and friends. Orvis laughed easily and always enjoyed a good joke. Her home was always welcoming to family and friends and she enjoyed entertaining them all in her open and informal way. She loved nature and enjoyed camping and working in the yard where she always kept beautiful flowers. She also always enjoyed receiving flowers and especially so during her time at Parkridge. We will all miss the twinkle in her eye and her ready smile. Orvis' family would like to thank everyone at Parkridge who supported her with love and kindness during her years there. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Parkridge Centre Therapeutic Recreation Department.
