Obituary of Philip Rivard
Philip John Rivard
September 26, 1926 – February 20, 2017.
Phil passed away peacefully Monday February 20, 2017 at the age of 90 years. Phil was a successful Geotechnical Engineer who worked for the PFRA for most of his career. After his retirement he earned a BFA where his love for art blossomed. He was a scout leader who took pride in volunteerism. Nature was a large part of his heart and he encouraged his family to share in the mysteries that could be found there. Predeceased by his son Paul Rene Rivard and his sister Dorothy Congdon, he is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marlys Jean Vango Rivard, his children Philip (Brenda McCormick), Michelle (Lyle) Mason, Janine Rivard (John Westervelt), and David Rivard. His grandchildren are Michael (Dana), Matthew, Joseph (Sydney), Lindsay, Erin (Spencer Earnshaw), Paul, Nicole, Denae (Colby Elford) and Kamara (Michael Bell). Great grandchildren Avery, Caeley, Alia, Ashlynn, Peyton, Jase, Nathan, Blake, Tyson, Noah, Emmett and John. He considered his family his greatest accomplishment. Special thank you to Sherbrooke Community Centre for the kind love and attention given to the Rivard family. Donations in Philip’s memory can be made to Royal University Hospital Foundation.
Cry of the Loon
When chaos is about
and the world turns dark take leave to the midnight lake
surrounded by the sighing willows.
It is there you will find me soothing my battered soul
To the mournful cry of the loons.
