I was the first baby that Rev. Stevens baptized after his ordination. This was in 1952, 71 years ago, in Rockglen, Saskatchewan. He told my Mom in a subsequent letter that for this reason he had a special interest in my progress, and asked her to let him know how I was doing. I still have that letter. I'm sorry I wasn't able to get in touch with him personally before he passed away to let him know that I have done well - he got me off to a good start. He sounds like an amazing man. Belated condolences to his family. Donna (Moncrieff) Burden

Dr. Joseph Chorney and the ROMEOs posted a condolence

Our condolences to the family of Wendell Stevens:
Informed and conversational, Wendell was a joy to know. He was a leader and a stalwart attendee of our weekly lunch group: Retired Old Men Eating Out, aka the ROMEOs, although his soup, at times was not quite what he thought he had ordered. He was well informed and enjoyed a good discussion with humour. He kept us alerted to the status of the Riders, his favourite football team.
This is a difficult farewell to our friend, Wendell, a dear sweet man we will remember with deepest respect and admiration. We will miss him

Our deepest condolences to the Stevens family. It was a pleasure to have known him. We are happy to have seen him a few years ago, in reasonable good health. We will treasure the memories of him and going to church.
Our love to Thelma and the rest of the family.

It is with a heavy heart that I have just learned of the passing of Rev. Dr. Stevens. I extend my deepest condolences to his family. I met Stevey at St. Pauls United Church and through those few years I came to understand how compassionate of a man he was. He was a man who would sit and talk to you about whatever needed to be talked about. He was above all else a trusted friend, he will forever be in the hearts of the people who were fortunate enough to have known him.

Stevey was a very dynamic person in so many ways and all your happy memories will hopefully bring your family much comfort in the coming weeks. I should have written long ago to say "thank you" for how much both Stevey and Thelma did to enrich the lives of our parents and us four girls, family wise and in the church and community. With heartfelt sympathy. Linda, Karen, Pam and Ruth Selvig

Stevie always projected a Peter Pan like image of never wanting to fully grow up, but underlying this he showed rock like faith in wanting to serve God and others. Life with him in residence was often boisterous but always enjoyable. I shall never forget him. My love to Thelma, Doug Dundee.
