Obituary of Brian Charles Taylor
It is with a hurt and heavy heart that we announce the passing of Brian on December 27, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by family and friends. Brian was born in Brandon, MB on March 12, 1955 alongside his twin sister, Bev. He attended Park Elementary School, Earl Oxford and Neelin High School. Brian met his soulmate, Barb Crowe in 2000 and they started a new life together. He loved Barb’s son Michael Crowe (Stacey Kaczmer) and daughter Maile Crowe (Sean Barclay) as if they were his own. The Apple of his Eye was his beloved Grandson, Lennon Barclay (3) who was always able to lift Brian’s spirits during his battle. “Taylor,” as he was often known, had a long career in television. He started his career in 1974 at CKX in Brandon and retired from Global TV Saskatoon in November 2008. He came to Saskatoon in 1987 as an integral part in the Launch of STV. Here he enjoyed the work aspect as well as the social aspect which normally took place at the nearby Saskatoon Inn. “Taylor” was a friend first and boss second and earned the respect of his colleagues with this approach. He was the Big Brother of the STV family and mentored in an unprecedented way which got the most out of his team. Soon after his retirement in television he joined Barb at Ixtapa Travel. He was instrumental in expanding their company into the Manitoba market. While “working” at Ixtapa Travel, Brian was able to experience much of the world with Barb. They loved traveling throughout Europe with many friends, Turkey and Croatia being their favorites. However, it was a small coastal town in Southern Mexico that captured their hearts and became their second home. It was here where Huatulco friends became Huatulco family, many of whom shared a Pacifico when learning of Brian’s passing. Brian was smart, caring, sharp witted, with a great sense of humor and very stubborn, which made for some fiery conversations. He loved listening to classic rock, mainly Pink Floyd. A trip to Winnipeg to see them in 1994 was among best memories for Brian. He loved being in his backyard and spent countless hours finding a way to make it more tranquil. Brian had a great life both personally and professionally and he will be lovingly remembered and missed by all who knew him, but especially by his siblings Sandra Alden (Donald), Toronto, ON, Sharon Phillips (Stan), Brandon, MB, Bob Taylor (late Sharon), Brandon, MB, Barb Vinters, (Neal), Brandon, MB, Dan Taylor (Shelley), Brandon, MB, Evelyn Tilleman (Dean), Okotoks, AB, and his twin sister Bev Wiley (Bruce), Los Angeles, as well as his many nieces and nephews, and special friends Sue Walker and Jennifer Krystyniak. He was predeceased by his parents Ruth and Keston Taylor. Also predeceased by his Sister-in-law Sharon Taylor. We would like to deeply thank Brian’s Cancer Care Team, Dr. Abbas, Dr. Brunet, and his assistant Elaine who always took Barb’s calls. His team never quit when it came to Brian. We would like to also thank the Palliative Home Care team for their many visits that made it possible for Brian to stay home with his family. Their utmost care and compassion made his final nights at home very comfortable. Donations may be made to Brain cancer research at the Saskatoon Cancer Centre 20 Campus Dr, Saskatoon, SK S7N 4H4.
