Obituary of Hendrika Latsay

Hendrika “Riki” Latsay July 21, 1924 - November 23, 2016 Hendrika "Riki" Latsay passed away suddenly in her home on November 23, 2016. Riki was born July 21, 1924 in Arnhem, Netherlands. She was the youngest of six children and was raised running the van Asperen's family grocery store. She lived through the Second World War and was full of passionate and emotional stories about her experience. At a young age, she lived and protected others through extraordinary circumstances. It was during the war she met the love of her life, Steve Latsay, an American serving in the Canadian Army (Winnipeg Rifles). When the war was over Riki and Steve set up a wonderful life on their farm near Dinsmore, SK. Riki was a proud farmers wife, and took tremendous pride in their hard work and strong friendships. The couple retired in Saskatoon in the mid 1970's. Riki lost her husband, Steve, in 1991. In her 25 years as a widow, she received great joy from her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Riki is survived by daughters Diane Hammill (Prince Albert) and Sheila Latsay (Saskatoon), grandchildren Lisa (Colin) Dutton (Saskatoon), Karl Kuchinka (Langham), Mark Kuchinka (Moose Jaw), Erica Smart (NZ), and Jay Hammill (BC). Her heart was also with surviving sister in law, Julia Latsay (Outlook). Riki's great grandchildren Sabra Richardson (Langham) and Jesse and Johnny Dutton (Saskatoon) were the apple of her eye. She was know to wander Saskatoon showing off photos of her great grandkids and "Oma bragging".

Funeral

A service of remembrance in Riki's honour is being held Tuesday November 29th, 1:00pm at Saskatoon Funeral Home, 338 4th Ave N. Luncheon to follow.
