Obituary of Peter Osatchoff
Peter P. Osatchoff of Langham, SK passed away peacefully on October 27, 2016. Peter is survived by Hazel (nee Chernoff), his loving wife of 69 years, his sister Helen (Fred) Hoodicoff, sister-in-law Mary Osatchoff,
brother-in-law Nick (Gertie) Chernoff, daughter Carol (Orville) Epp and their children Jana (Scott Gibbons), Lori (Kevin) Hitchings, Angela (Devin) Collins, daughter Janet Wilson and her children Charles and Christina, and son Perry (Yvonne) Osatchoff and their daughter Christina. He is also survived by his great grandchildren Matthew Hanson, Tyr Hitchings, Julie Hitchings, Brody Collins and Hailey Collins. Peter was predeceased by his parents Peter and Helen Osatchoff, brother Fred Osatchoff, sister Polly Lochrie, son-in-law Roger Wilson, and nephews Allan Osatchoff, Michael Popoff and Kevin Chernoff.
Peter was born on the family farm in the Henrietta district and attended Henrietta School. His first job was as a bellhop at the Barry Hotel. When his parents moved to BC, Peter took over the family farm with his beautiful bride Hazel, whom he married October 18, 1947. The Pakrovka Creek was a wonderful place to raise their three children; thereafter, in 1972 Peter and Hazel built their dream home in Langham where they resided until 2008.
He volunteered on Corman Park Council, Langham Town Council and as a rink manager/caretaker. He enjoyed kaiser, bowling, curling and bingo. Peter and Hazel spent a great deal of time traveling to Sleeping Buffalo, Hawaii, Las Vegas, Arizona and Watrous with family and friends.
In their later years, they moved to the Villa Royale in Saskatoon, Borden Care Home and finally the Langham Seniors Home. It was during these years he appreciated visits with the family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren who kept him young. He always enjoyed attending their activities. A kid at heart, he could keep any child entertained.
The love of his life was Hazel who was always by his side; they were forever going somewhere. They truly loved every minute of their 69 years together. Time was spent traveling in the country looking at crops. One of his highlights was harvesting and spending time with his son Perry. Always a John Deere man, he continued to farm until retirement. Now he will be resting in peace on the Osatchoff homestead land. Peter will be remembered for his mischievous ways, with a twinkle in his eye, infectious smile and kind heart.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Saskatoon Doukhobor Prayer Home or Langham Seniors Home.
The family expresses heartfelt thanks to the Langham Seniors Home for the care and compassion shown to our dad, Saskatoon Funeral Home, Officiate Jeanette Stringer, The Rev. Kathleen James-Cavan, Doukhobor Choir, Knox United Church for the luncheon and the pallbearers. The family also expresses their gratitude for all food, flowers, cards, kind words and memorial donations. Your thoughtfulness is appreciated and will always be remembered.
