Curtis Torrens

Obituary of Curtis Torrens

It is with profound shock and sadness that the family and friends of JOHN CURTIS TORRENS, late of Borden, SK, announce his accidental passing on Friday, October 14, 2016, at the age of 36 years. Curtis was born the youngest child to Jim and Lorraine Torrens. His early years were spent on the family farm in west central Saskatchewan, until the family moved to the Town of Kindersley in 1990. After completing high school, Curtis’ passion for being outdoors and working with his hands led him to a career in the Oilfield; a pursuit which he thoroughly enjoyed and found incredibly rewarding, as it took him across the Saskatchewan, Alberta and even Saudi Arabian landscapes. In the spring of 2003, Curtis met the love of his life, Elizabeth Dyck (Liz), while they were both fulfilling usher duties at the wedding of mutual friends. In 2005, Curtis and Liz married in the Village of Borden, SK. Shortly thereafter they returned to home soil from Alberta and settled on the Rocky River Farm outside of Borden, SK to establish ‘The Torrens Estate’ and work to build their future. In his adult life, Curtis came to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ. Like so many, he was still in the struggle and process of figuring out just what it truly means to follow Christ with all his heart and soul. The commitment that Curtis had made was just the beginning of the journey he was walking. Curtis' only son and best buddy, Ryley, arrived in 2009, Daddy's little girl, Anna, followed in 2011, and the family was completed with precious baby girl Shelby in 2014. Curtis' entire world revolved around Liz and the kids and he worked very hard to build and support their lives together. Curtis’ favourite past times included camping and fishing (in the mountains, especially), movies (particularly science fiction, Star Trek and Star Wars), farming, and was very committed to the oil and gas industry that is so essential to the Saskatchewan and Alberta economies. Curtis leaves his beloved wife Liz and adored children Ryley, Anna, and Shelby to honour his life and memory. He will be lovingly remembered by his mother, Lorraine, brother Mark and sister Melissa; as well as Father-In-Law Wendell, sister-in-law Carol (Leighton) Tebay, neices and nephews Tania, Tori, David, Matthew and Lynae, and countless dear friends. In the kingdom of heaven, Curtis will be joyfully reunited with his beloved father, Jim, and mother-in-law, Judy Dyck, joining them in providing a watchful eye over his Liz and little ones. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Curtis and support of Liz and the children at ANY Affinity Credit Union to the “Curtis Torrens Family Fund” (quotation marks required).
