Fred’s family are saddened to announce his passing at St. Paul’s Hospital on October 5, 2016 with his family by his side. Fred is survived by his wife Stella (nee Hughes); his son Anthony and his wife Helen (nee Smyth), their family – Aileen Patterson, Luke Patterson, Christine Patterson (Andrew Robinson) and their two children Arya and Leif Robinson, and Aiden Patterson of Newfoundland; his daughter Colleen Patterson and her husband Phil Foster, and their two children, Adam and Alex Foster of Saskatoon. He is predeceased by his parents Courtney and Margaret Josephine; his brothers – William, Courtney and David and his sister Geraldine. Fred was born in Bushmills, Northern Ireland, UK and raised in Belfast. He was trained as marine engineer and served in the British Merchant Navy until 1963, Fred married Stella in 1962 and emmigrated to Canada in 1963. He initially worked in Manitoba but settled in Saskatchewan in 1966. He retired from the Department of Labour in 1991. Fred was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and the Downtowners Optimist Club of Regina. Fred was a passionate Lawn Bowler and Cribbage player. He will be remembered as a loving grandfather, DIY Disaster Fixer and Common Sense Distributor.
