My mom, Violet (Reid) Nutter, went to King George school with Mr. Howe. She said the boys were always playing hockey before school and would make quite a commotion coming in late and dumping their hockey equipment in the hallway outside the classroom. She remembers one morning in particular when the boys came in late again and the teacher, Mr. Trickey, asked for their homework. Gordie said his wasn't done. When asked why, he hung his head and said he'd had a hockey game the night before and hadn't had time to do it. My mom chuckles when she remembers Mr. Trickey's reply. " Gordie, you'll never make a living playing hockey, so you'd better get your homework done."
I hope this brings a chuckle to your family too! I hope you have a wonderful day honoring your father, grandfather.
