Mildred Viola Kaufmann, SMS
June 1st,1926 – September 19, 2016
Mildred died peacefully at St. Joseph’s Home in Saskatoon on September 19, 2016.
She was born in Leipzig, Sask. on June 1st, 1926 into a family of ten children. Mildred graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1950 from St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon. She joined a new community, the Sisters of Mission Service, in Prince Albert, Sask. in 1954. For ten years she was a Night Supervisor at University Hospital. During this time she obtained her Diploma in Nursing Administration. In 1970, Mildred earned her Masters Degree in Marriage Counselling in Washington, D.C. and her Ph.D. in Sociology in 1977. Mildred worked at Catholic Family Services in Saskatoon for 11 years and in Prince Albert for 13 years before retiring in 2001. As a faithful Reiki Master, she continued to share her time and gifts with Catholic Family Services and the northern First Nations communities. When we think of Mildred, we remember her joyful spirit, her concern and care for others – especially her family – and strong determination in all she did. She was always ready for a good party and most recently was still able to thoroughly enjoy her 90th birthday celebration. Surviving to cherish her memory are the following: her Religious Community ( the Sisters of Mission Service), her sisters: Dolores Flaskay and Rose Marie Flash; her brothers: Bernard Kaufmann and Fr. Lester Kaufmann, OMI; and many nieces and nephews. Mildred is predeceased by her parents: Anthony and Rose Kaufmann; her sisters: Lucille, Colette Genevieve; her brothers: William, Arnold and David. The Sisters of Mission Service would like to express their deep gratitude to the Sisters of St. Joseph and their staff for their patient and loving care towards Mildred for the past two years.
