Gerry passed away peacefully laying on the couch listening to the Sunday morning Mass on July 7, 2024. Gerald (Gerry) Gaudreau, the son of Armand and Lea (Blanchette) was born October 17, 1934 in Gravelbourg, SK but raised in Courval, SK with 5 siblings.
Until his mid twenties, Gerry played hockey, curling, and baseball. In 1957, he met Diana Maurice when she came to teach in Courval. The following year they were married. Gerry and Diana moved to Gravelbourg, where they were blessed with 4 children: Michel (Mike), Gisele, Claude and Colin. He worked as a farmer, at the grocery store, and as a labourer at d’Youville Senior Home. In 1965, the family moved to Assiniboia, SK where Gerry became an elevator agent for Federal Grain, later moving to Val Marie, SK and also Beechy, SK. He took pride in planting a weedless garden, growing plenty to share with locals. He also enjoyed hunting pheasants with his dog Rocky. The family did lots of camping and even pulled the trailer all the way to California for a Christmas vacation. In 1977, they returned to Gravelbourg where Gerry became an insurance salesman for Pioneer Life (and he was very good at it!). He also adjusted for hail insurance. Gerry’s successful sales with Pioneer Life allowed them to do lots of traveling. He retired in 1988, but helped local farmers on a casual basis. In 1998, they moved to Thomson Lake, SK where he was able to spend lots of time fishing, both in summer and winter. In 2018, they moved to Saskatoon to St Volodymyr Court East where they have enjoyed fellowship with everyone. Gerry loved telling jokes, showing card tricks, singing, watching sports on TV, specifically the Toronto Blue Jays, Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Riders.
He is survived by Diana, his loving wife of almost 66 years; his children, Mike (Nicole), Gisele, Claude (Joann) and Colin (Chris); his grandchildren, Philippe (Meredith), Richard (Danielle), Rose (Jim), Cody (Lucky), Josh (Rose), Renee (Remi), Kyle, Derek, Jordan (Dallas) and Colton; his great-grandchildren, Hana, Jessica, Stephanie, Ivy, Jaxon, Oliver, Gabriel and Tommy; his brother, Ray; his sisters, Blanche and Dolly (Claude); his sisters-in-law, Adeline and Lea; Diana’s siblings, Florent (Nina), Gerty (Fred), Gerald (Del) and Denis (Betty); many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Armand and Lea; his brothers, Louis and Alain; and his son-in-law, Cliff.
The Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Spirit Church (114 Kingsmere Place, Saskatoon, SK). The service will be live streamed and can be viewed by clicking on the link above the day of the Funeral.
