Fredrick Ronald (Fred) Smith, 90 years old, of Saskatoon, SK, passed away on June 19, 2024 at St. Joseph’s Home of Saskatoon.

Fred was born in Tisdale to James and Louisa Smith on January 4, 1934. He went to school in Eldersly, SK. After completing grade 8 he had done enough school and it was time to get working. Fred met Marilyn on New Year’s Eve of 1961. They were married October 6, 1962 in the Zion Lutheran Church in Hague.  While living in Eldersly, SK  their daughter Donalee came along in 1963 followed by their son Darren in 1965. The family made the move into Tisdale in 1966 followed by a move to Prince Albert in 1972 and Candle Lake in 1992. In 2008, Fred and Marilyn gave up lake life at Candle and took up condo life in Saskatoon.

Fred worked numerous jobs in his life including the farm, bush camps, a gravelling business with his brothers Jim & Art, oil rigs, heavy duty mechanic at Kramer Tractor then continued this career as mechanic then shop supervisor at Woodlands Enterprises in Prince Albert. After Woodlands, Fred was a gravel checker of pulp haul bush roads all over northern Saskatchewan. After retirement in 1997, he was active in the Candle Lake community taking on positions of Counsellor and monitoring the water level of the lake.

The highlight of Fred’s summers was always taking the grandchildren out with the boat, getting them tubing, water skiing and knee boarding. Fred loved to be surrounded by friends and family. He loved to travel, quad, snowmobile, ski and visit with friends.

Fred is survived by his wife, Marilyn Smith, grandchildren Bethany Alberts, Matthew (Madison) Alberts and great grandson Ellis, grandson Kenton Alberts, daughter-in-law Brenda Smith & Daniel Paquette, grandsons Wesley Smith and Brendan Paquette, sister-in-law Margaret Smith as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
