We were shocked to hear of the loss of Kevin from joint friends. We all attended university together studying music and it seems like just yesterday and forever ago at the same time. My husband was friends with Kevin long before this as they played together in a trombone choir, jazz bands etc back in high school where whey got to travel to Nashville together for an international trombone workshop. They also were in the CG together in Ottawa for a few years where many stories have been remembered and shared over the years and again just recently. All tend to feature Kevin as he was always front and centre in the action. Our deepest condolences to his family. He was a light too soon extinguished and he will be missed.

Our deepest condolences to you, Mel, and families. We both enjoyed working with Kevin at the east depot back in the day. May the memories you had together give you comfort at this time. We are both thinking of you today. Hugs Colleen Kuzyk & Chris Ritchie (Kelowna, B.C.)

Melanie, family and friends;
Please accept my deepest condolences during this heartbreaking time. Like so many others, I met Kevin in Ottawa in CG Band and worked with him during the summers of '86 to '89. His last year, he told me he was moving on and applying for a job in the postal service since much of his experience involved "walking". He had done over 600 parades in Ottawa's summer heat, so nobody could dispute that. He was such a character, so witty and fun to be around. On the job and off. Whenever I think of those years in CG Band, no matter how challenging some times were, Kevin played a big part in the memories that make me smile. This morning, I took out my GGFG cap badge, made a donation to the Heart & Stroke foundation, and in a few hours , will follow the the ceremony on live stream. Later on tonight, I'll light a candle and toast him with a beer. He won't be forgotten.
Sincerely,
Philip Lucy, Moncton, NB

This guy flew up to me at an outdoor brass band concert I was playing in, thrust two beers into my hands, and gave me a big hug before I realized it was Kevin. That was two summers ago that we re-connected, and now that he's gone I'll hold on to that memory for as long as I'm lucky to be alive. Farewell Kevin - the universe truly made you one of a kind.

Years ago, I performed in an Early Music concert that involved a brass group Kevin played in, a choral group I sang in, & a mixed instrumental/vocal group I participated in. I remember being in touch with Kevin during the planning of the concert and found him delightful and quirky to work with.
My deepest condolences to all who knew & loved Kevin. I will miss occasionally seeing him around & I will never forget his energies. RIP

I spent three summers with Kevin in the Band of the Ceremonial Guard (1983-85). We had a lot of good times together. He was an exceptional player and a walking encyclopedia of all things musical. We would be listening to CBC in the barracks and Kevin would call the composition and often the year it was recorded, the orchestra, the conductor, and the names of the brass section members.
Kevin taught me how to milk the cow. Take your coffee creamer and puncture the top with a fork. Then, turn the creamer over and squeeze the milk out - you’re milking the cow. It is a skill I have passed on to my three children.
Kevin had a secret stash in the barracks, and we would listen to CBC, polish our boots, and sip Jack Daniels out of our Kiwi polish can lids. I’ll have one for you and good memories Kevin. Up the Guards!
In this photo, we are wheeling off Parliament Hill. I am wearing corporal stripes and Kevin is to my right. This would have likely been the summer of 1984.

I am so very sorry to hear of Kevin's death. I was a trombone player in the Ceremonial Guard Band from 1986 to 1988 and I had the pleasure of playing trombone with Kevin on many parades and concerts in Ottawa during that time. I remember Kevin as a very intelligent person dedicated to making music and also as a man who possessed a rather wicked sense of humour. I think of my time with the Ceremonial Guard often and Kevin is always a key figure in those fond memories. Please accept my deepest condolences at what must be a very difficult time for you, your family and your friends.

I remember seeing a show at the Odeon sharing a table with Kevin. I DJ'd at the CFCR radio station so Our station was very familiar with Kevin and the bands he played with. Kevin was a well-known "Horn"player in the music community. My Hubby and I crossed paths with Kevin on more than one occaision. But mostly....My Dear Friend Mel was the love of his life, and She, His. Life is truly cruel and unfair, but NOTHING can change the love these two shared and their unique quirky ecsentricities that made them the perfect couple. God Speed Kevin....we will be there for Mel until her broken heart begins to heal. Thank you for making my friends life full and wonderful! You will TRULY be missed.
