SORGO, Nella
Nov. 13, 1937 – Feb. 23, 2024
Our days quickly pass and we fly away. In the afternoon of Friday, February 23, 2024, in the Palliative Care Unit of St. Paul’s Hospital, Nella Sorgo went to be with her Lord at the age of 86. She died peacefully while her hand was being held and while being told that she was deeply loved and appreciated.
Nella was predeceased by her husband Petar, brother Nadalin and parents Jakov and Justina. She leaves behind her two children Jim and Linda (Boyd) as well as her grandchild Shalene (Max). She is also survived by numerous relatives in Istra, Croatia. She loved these relatives and had made the trip overseas to visit several times.
Nella was born and grew up in the village of Skofi in Istra, Croatia. She and Petar were married in a camp in Italy on September 23, 1957 while awaiting a chance to immigrate to either Australia or Canada. They had to wait a few years but they finally arrived by ship in Quebec in 1960. From there they journeyed to Saskatoon via train.
Nella loved and lived for her family and friends. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, willing to fix a delicious home cooked meal any time of the day or night. Baked goodies were prepared for any occasion or just because. She enjoyed gardening, watching hockey and doing jigsaw puzzles.
The better you knew Nella, the more you realized how special she was. Uncompromisingly selfless and humble, she was a true embodiment of the act of giving. She never heard of the adage saying that people are measured by what they gave, she just instinctively always gave everything she could possibly offer.
May the favour of the Lord our God rest upon us;
establish the work of our hands for us –
yes, establish the work of our hands.
Psalm 90:17
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at St. Paul’s Hospital for their dedicated care during the ups and downs of Nella’s extended stay.
