Obituary of Bob Downey
On February 22, 2024, Robert (Bob) Harold Downey, passed away to rest with his Lord. Bob was born in Regina, SK in 1933 to John Stuart and Victoria (McKenzie) Downey. He accepted the Lord as his Saviour as a young boy at Arlington Beach Bible Camp.
As a teenager, Bob enjoyed working and tinkering in the shop, hunting, fishing at Last Mountain Lake, and playing hockey for the Nokomis team. Bob attended the University of Saskatchewan where he completed his diploma in Vocational Agriculture in 1954. He started farming on his own at age 17 and completed 72 harvests.
Bob married Margaret (Baxter) in 1960 and together they raised 4 children and farmed at Elstow, SK for 40 years. Early in their marriage, Bob and Marg chose to affirm their faith together through believer’s baptism. Bob was known for his spiritual gifts of encouragement and service.
He enjoyed woodworking, restoring antique vehicles, stationary engines, tractors, and machinery. Bob also enjoyed volunteering as a Thresherman at the Western Development Museum.
Bob loved spending time with his grandchildren working together around the farm, fishing, and sharing stories of adventures and history, always with a twinkle in his eye. Bob also enjoyed music nights and sharing stories about life with all of his friends at Aspira Hunter Village.
After Margaret’s passing, Bob married Shirley (Weber) in 2020 and together they shared 3½ years of life and love. As a faithful follower of Christ, Bob was prayerful and diligent throughout all of life’s challenges and found great strength through faith in our Lord. Bob is survived by his wife Shirley, along with his 4 children and their spouses, 7 grandchildren, 1 sister, and numerous nieces and nephews.
As a family, we want to extend a special thank you to Dr. Jonathon Hey, the wonderful staff at St. Paul’s Hospital and the caring staff at Aspira Hunter Village.
