Obituary of Sheelah Faye McDermott
Sheelah Faye McDermott
February 16, 1935 – February 6, 2024
Sheelah passed away just short of her 89th birthday. She leaves behind her children Linda Epp (Les, sons Mitchell and Spencer), Carol Nelson (Jim, daughter Olivia), and Brad Renpenning (Sheila) as well as her dearest friend Doris Serne. She was predeceased by her father John, mother Faye, and brother Dermot - all on January 8th in different years. Sheelah broke the Irish curse by waiting a few extra weeks.
Born and raised in Nipawin SK, Sheelah graduated from Saskatoon City Hospital Nursing in 1956. It was then she made lifelong friends, including Doris, Marlene, and Maureen. Along with their spouses, they enjoyed many fishing trips filled with laughs.
Once she had children, Sheelah became a full-time homemaker, playing taxi driver as required. An accomplished seamstress, mom expertly matched seams of the most challenging plaids and stripes. She enjoyed curling in the winter and golfed at Riverside well into her 80’s.
Sheelah showed strength and resilience after a difficult divorce, travelling with friends and enjoying her grandchildren. She had a no-nonsense approach to life and a biting wit that did not mellow with age. A creature of habit, she liked a gin and tonic before dinner, and a scotch before bed.
Sadly, her memory faltered over the past few years, which frustrated her immensely. The family would like to thank the staff of Riverside Terrace and Prairie Springs for their care and compassion.
Cremation entrusted to Saskatoon Funeral Home.
A celebration of Sheelah’s life will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, April 27, 2024 at the Edwards Family Centre (333 4th Avenue North), courtesy parking at Saskatoon Funeral Home.
