Obituary of Gary Lee Skelton
Gary passed away suddenly, but peacefully, on January 28, 2024 with family at his side at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon.
Born in Saskatoon, he was raised on the family farm near Aberdeen. Gary then went on to complete a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy at the University of Saskatchewan in 1968.
In 1969, he married the love of his life Lynda. They had two children Richard and Katherine.
Gary began his career as a pharmacist in Saskatchewan. He continued in Ontario living and working in Windsor, Barrie, and Orillia. Gary and Lynda returned to Saskatchewan in 1975. Starting in Saskatoon, they moved to Lanigan where they owned and operated Lanigan Drugs while raising their family. They later moved to Regina, Weyburn, and eventually North Battleford where they owned and operated Inter-City Pharmacy. In 2011, they retired to Saskatoon.
Gary cared for the well being of others and the communities he lived in. He welcomed his store customers with respect, knowing them individually, and caring for their needs. Volunteer hours included the Drake Credit Union Board and serving as a Lanigan Town Councillor. A quiet leader with a great sense of humour, he was always someone you could count on.
He enjoyed reading, stamp collecting, woodworking, curling and playing ball with friends, watching football and other sports, taking in a good mystery, bird watching, going for walks, dining out, and most of all, the time spent with family and friends.
Gary was a supportive and loving husband, Dad, and Grandpa. Thoughtful, funny, and clever, he lived fully to the end. He is deeply missed and forever loved.
Survived by his children, Richard and Katherine (Alexander); grandchildren, Audrey and Benjamin; sister, Jane (Ray); brother, Glen; and a larger extended family.
Gary was predeceased by his parents, Richard and Helen; his wife, Lynda; and sister-in-law, Nora.
Donations in memory of Gary may be made to a charity of your choice.
