Obituary of Yuk Yip Lau Mark
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Yuk Yip Lau Mark who peacefully left this world on January 26, 2024. She was born on September 18, 1923, in Toisan Canton, now known as Taishan Guangdong.
She was predeceased by her parents; siblings; husband, Wing Yun Mark; and daughter-in-law, Mary Mark (wife of Tom Mark).
Yuk Yip Lau Mark with her husband together built a life full of love, family and community. In addition to her role as a loving mother and wife, Yuk Yip Lau Mark, along with her husband, owned and operated the well known restaurant, National Chop Suey from the mid-1950’s to mid-1980’s. Their culinary venture became a staple in the community, known not only for its delicious fare but also for sense of community it fostered. Yuk Yip Lau Mark’s passion for cooking and hospitality was evident in every dish served, leaving a lasting impact on the palates and memories of patrons.
Yuk Yip Lau Mark’s departure leaves a void that will be felt deeply by her family, friends, and the community she dearly embraced. Her memory will live on through the love and compassion she shared, the delicious meals she prepared, and the countless lives she touched.
She will dearly missed by her children, Sheulin Cheung (Kwok-Sing), Tom Mark, Allen Mark, Doug Mark and Edna Mack (Larry); grandchildren, Cathy Yee (Michael), Aimee Yuan (Wesley), Becky Cheung, Debbie Cheung, Annie Yee (Allan), Kit Degenhart (Nathan), Branden Mack and Lyndall Mack; eleven great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Les Mark; and niece, Kristina Schmidt (Tim).
The Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 2nd, 2024 at Saskatoon Funeral Home (338 4th Ave. North). The interment will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery in the new Chinese section.
The family wants to thank the St. Paul Hospital and the Palliative Care staff for their dedication and compassionate care for Mrs. Yuk Yip Lau Mark.
