Obituary of Michael Richard Bender

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Michael “Mike” Bender, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather on January 13, 2024.

Mike was born in Ottawa, Ont, to Rosalie and Frederick Bender. He was raised in Ontario with his seven brothers and sisters, before moving to Saskatchewan. On January 19, 1980, Michael married Evelyn McGinnis, becoming stepfather to her children, Norma, Theodore and Margaret.

Mike is predeceased by his wife, Evelyn Bender; parents, Frederick and Rosalie Bender; brothers, Patrick Bender, Christopher Bender and Frederick Bender; sisters, Joan Gleiser and Shiela Bender; and daughter, Margaret McGinnis.

Mike had a love of music, frequently hosting jam sessions, teaching his grandchildren to play, and using music to lift the spirits of those around him.

Mike is survived by his sisters, Maureen McCoy and Kathleen Bender; daughter, Norma McGinnis; son, Theodore McGinnis; grandchildren, Daniel Bueckert (Kaieleigh Bueckert), Angela Bueckert, Cheryl Beaton (James Beaton) and Ryan McGinnis; great-grandchildren, Carson, Isaac, Erza, Lily and Willow; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

A Celebration of Mike’s life will be held on January 28, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Saskatoon Funeral Home (338 4th Ave. N. / Saskatoon, SK). For those unable to attend the service, the family invites you to join the service via livestream. The livestream link will be available on the tribute page the day of the service.
