Obituary of Michelle Anne Flowers

 

Michelle Anne Flowers

June 12th 1972 - January 10th 2024

 

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved Michelle, who died peacefully, surrounded by her family, after battling lung cancer for these past 15 months.

 

Michelle's greatest pride was her family.  She leaves behind her partner in crime John Paul, children Sebastian, Autumn & Halyn, her brother Damian, sister-in-law Althea and dogs Ronin and Piper.  Michelle was predeceased by her parents, Jan & John and her sister Angelique.

 

Michelle was born in Melbourne, Australia and excelled at school academically and in sporting pursuits, captaining the track & field team in her last year at high school.  In the years following school she worked full time in the public service and went on to further studies at University in Ballarat.

 

Michelle loved to paint, was an avid reader, loved camping and getting out into nature, especially if there were trees to walk amongst.  In her late twenties she left Australia to travel the world.  While in Canada she met the love of her life, J.P.  They continued to travel together before settling down to start a family in Saskatoon.

 

After the passing of her younger sister Angelique, Michelle was involved in the creation of a documentary called 35 Letters.  It went on to win best documentary at the Sydney film festival in 2014 and was influential in the progression of assisted dying laws in Victoria and Australia.

 

While raising the children, Michelle was heavily involved in advocacy for midwifery and breastfeeding moms.  She also practiced energy healing, yoga and massage therapy, and helped countless people on their healing journeys.

 

Once the children had started at school, Michelle undertook a M.Sc. in interdisciplinary studies that focused on healing and autoethnography, and completed the degree in 2014.  This lead to work with the Saskatchewan Health Authority, where she got great joy from her final job as a patient advocate.

 

Michelle had many dear friends all over the world.  She was a trusted confidant and joyful companion, who was able to make all that came into her orbit feel loved and at ease.  Michelle also had an extraordinary ability to appreciate and reciprocate beauty.

 

A celebration of life will be held for Michelle at 2pm on Saturday January 20th at Agar's Corner, https://agars-corner.com/
